Mid-major is a term used in American NCAA Division I college sports, especially men's basketball, to refer to athletic conferences that are not among the so-called "Power Five conferences" (the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC), the American, the Atlantic 10, Mountain West and the Big East[1] the programs of which are sometimes referred to as "high majors" by comparison. The term "mid-major" was coined in 1977 by Jack Kvancz, head coach of Catholic University's men's basketball team.[2] Such a distinction is not officially acknowledged by the NCAA, nor does the NCAA use the terms "major" and "mid-major" to differentiate between Division I athletic conferences. It is considered offensive and derogatory by some fans and schools.

Per Sagarin, OU SOS ranking # 7, UCF # 72 ........ No problem with using the Kanigits season as fodder for expanding playoffs but trying to say they should have been there THIS year is kind of ridiculous.

Not sure.ok beat TCU who super jumped up in the rankings, and I can’t find the merited in that. They went from unrranked to #9 after beating jackson state? Also TCU was ranked 9 both times they met. OSU was there best regular season win, and ok state beat a bunch of nobodies to get to 14. If the AAC got the boost the B12 teams get by beating nobodies the tinmen would’ve been there. Hate to say it, but it’s true. They get elevated based on the name of their conference, and AAC teams don’t.
