He could get a DC job in the nfl. His linebacking unit overachieved.

Overachieved? I like Jim Leavitt just as much as the next guy, but Bowman, Willis, Smith and company are arguably the best LB corps in the NFL...

For what it is worth, Bowman was out the entire year from the injury he sustained in the NFC Championship game last year.  Patrick Willis missed 10 games and Aldon Smith was suspended for 9 games.  Rookies Chris Borland and Aaron Lynch played well this season.

So well they aren't in the playoffs and their HC lost his job at the end of the season.

You do know their offense was the issue, right?  Anyhow, was not wanting to debate the overachieved part, just sharing that others had to step up.

The other team scoring more points was the issue. Mediocre offense can be offset with great defense, like the 2002 Bucs. But yes, their backups had to step up but not just for injuries but for off the field issues. The off field issues of that team has lead their CEO to make a statement about it. http://espn.go.com/blog/san-francisco-49ers/post/_/id/11659/49ers-ceo-jed-york-wants-off-the-field-accountability

 Their head coach lost his job because he's too arrogant for the 49ers owner. One 8-8 season doesn't get you fired after back to back to back nfc championship appearances

Arrogant? That's putting it nicely. And rumor has it he lost the locker room too. And a playoff appearance would have probably meant he'd still be there, don't you think?

He was gone after this season no matter what. He made the NFC Championship game last year and was almost traded to the Browns.

You are such an agent provocateur.  Why are we steering the conversation away the fact that Borland and Lynch played well for a defense which had its leaders, Bowman and Willis , missing?  Of course the defense was not as good as it had been in the past but it still was pretty good.  The offense performing poorly and not sustaining drives is the reason they were .500 this season.

Missed the playoffs once in his tenure there, made it to the NFC championship game twice and the super bowl once in 4 seasons with a career record of 44-19-1. Give me a break.

I have heard that since last summer too.

Why do you ignore Smith? Edited by slick1ru2

Thank you for realizing what I was trying to say.

I would be very interested to know if Leavitt were back in the college game.  Sure we don't need to follow the nit-picky details of what he's doing there day today, but I think something like this would warrant discussion here.

I think Leavitt would be an outstanding DC choice for Harbaugh.  Though with a very large assistant salary pool, Harbaugh has a lot of good options.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
