deserves another year to get this turned around. Vegas had USF losing by 20 pts to Memphis, but USF was able to keep it at 11 points. CWT is on the right track with recruiting. He played a lot of Fr and Sophs that will be better. Things are looking up for USF. Keep the faith and give CWT one more season.

+1, and if it was up to me, he would get 4 more years. Personally i think every head coaching job should be a 6 year gig....but the candidates should run and the students/alumni/booster (only, no wannabees, not that we have any, but jic) can vote on who becomes coach. ANNNNDD that same population can impeach the coach after three years with a 75% vote.

So you wanted to see Skip Holtz get 3 more years? Are you out of your mind?

Taggart really needs a TE that can catch the football too.   McFarland is just awful.  I swear he must have atleast 15 drops this season, and every single one seems to be a 1st down play where we would have picked up 6 - 8 yards and be set up for an easy 1st down pickup on 2nd or 3rd down.

Taggart should get one more season.  The O-Line is much better.  The defense is extremely young and inconsistent but shows flashes at times,.  Our RB core is the best in the AAC.   Our WR's and TE's drop more passes then anyone in the country.  Our QB's are wildly inconsistent, but at the very least don't turn it over very much.   Alot of his recruits from this 2014's massive class are not even playing this year and are just redshirting anyways.  If even a handful of them are as good as Mack and Johnson then this team will start winning alot more games really soon.  If not then we have to look elsewhere for a coach, but to fire him for trying to fix a massive dumpster fire only two years in, when they have shown some improvement is stupid.

I disagree with the assessment of the running game. The run game should be the focal point of this offense, but we don't see enough 2nd and 6s or 3rd and 1 or 2 which puts more strain on our passing game. Our running game has pretty much consisted of 6 long runs (3 against WCU, 2 against Tulsa, 1 against Memphis) and then 2.7 yards per carry otherwise (which would be last in FBS). We are ranked 112th in the country in rushing yards per game. I like the idea of Macks speed being able to break long runs, but in reality that has been just a small fraction of a running game that has struggled. We need someone who can get the tough yards on runs up the middle and not just rely on speed.

Well said, thanks slick for pointing it out.  Thought the comments on it were spot on!  Anyone thinking this team has made progress this year needs to read this article.

What did you see in this game that would lead you to believe things will be better next year? You do realize that Mcfarland and Davis are graduating. Besides those two, the rest of the offense was 1 play by Mack for 75 yards. We only had another 17 yards on ground. That is pretty bad for a run oriented offense.

Or was it the 3 timeouts we had to call because Taggart didn't get the plays in until there were only 12 seconds left on the play clock.

The majority of the Freshman that are positively contributing are defense. That defense gave up almost 500 yards. There have been at least 3 games where they have given up over 300 yards in a half.

I get that the OP likes to look at the bright side of things, but the reality is there doesn't appear to be any positive progression from the coaching staff unless there are major changes to their approach.

The freshmen RBs are very good, but even if they improve even more next year, what will that bring to the team. Mack is already the conference rushing leader and we still can't keep games against the top half of the league competitive into the 4th quarter.

At this point I see the problems more at the coaching schemes, SITUATIONAL play calling and team preparation than with the talent.

How can you say there hasnt been positive progression? We have doubled our win total from last season; +1 progression. Offensive numbers are up accross the board (yards, tds, scoring); +2 progression,

Rebuilding a program from the ground up takes time. If you think this was gonna happen over night then you are sadly mistaken and might as well stop reading and posting on message boards as it will just give you a headache. CWT will get atleast 2 more years to right the ship.

We have doubled our win total and although that's a good thing it's AWFULLY deceiving. You can only play the schedule you're given, but last year we beat UCONN and got very lucky to beat Cincy (days after they dealt with a death of a teammate). This year We have beaten 3 UCONN's (UCONN, SMU, Tulsa) and an FCS team.

If we played Louisville and Rutgers again, instead of SMU and Tulsa this team is sitting at 2-9 right now and there's NO WAY you can disagree with that, not to mention our points per game average and total offense ranking are worse.

No one expects this to be rebuilt over night. We've gone from 124/124 in total offense to 120/124 and our schedule is WORSE than last year. 4 spots of improvement? It was going to get better on that side of the ball due to the fact that it couldn't get worse! Our defense has dropped light years behind what we had last year. I know we're young and we've got a new scheme but there's certainly no improvement on that side of the ball.

We've upped our average scoring per game from 14 to 18.7 (If you take out the FCS opponent of Western Carolina we're averaging 17 ppg). The amount of improvement is nowhere near enough for my taste. If we have this type of improvement from year to year we should be relevant again in what..... 28 years? Look at the entire picture. Weaker schedule, very little improvement on one side of the ball, a big drop off on the other side, things aren't exactly looking great. He deserves another year and will get another year, but if he doesn't get it turned around in an awfully big way next year he'll be packing his bags and back at a Western Kentucky type of school.

I wouldn't even be questioning the degree of improvement if we were competitive in most games until at least midway through the fourth quarter and if the majority of the productivity on offense was coming from the younger guys. If we were getting the same playmaking ability at WR from Bronson, Clerveaux, McCants and even at TE from Price that we are seeing from the RBs, but the productivity is coming from seniors so what happens on offense? We take another step back on the learning curve? And we lose 3 multi year starters on the OL. Just seems like we sort of start over or become one dimensional again on O.

And 11 games into the season he cant decide on a starting quarterback.

Steve Spurrier had that same problem at UF one year and he was well into his coaching carreer. It happens.

Go back and look at the stats from that year.  He didn't let that stop the offense because Spurrier was creative back in the day, and he figured out a way to make it work.  Taggart only knows one way, if it doesn't work he doesn't change anything.

So should Harlan evaluate Taggart based on his winning percentage ATS? I guess one could use that as an argument for getting better, but the last time I checked their isn't an ATS playoff. I'll take scoreboard wins thank you.

Harlan vs Taggart   need to take it to the ring with a pro thumb wrestle.....if Harlan wins, Taggart has to go.

I don't think it's fair to judge our running game like that. I think Johnson has been really good and I think Mack has been spectacular. Defenses stack the box against us due to our lack of passing game. They don't respect it and they shouldn't. I don't think the running game as a whole should get praised, but if we had even a below average passing attack the running game would be so much better.
