I previously asked if Canty would be eligible this year or be required to sit out the upcoming season and did not receive a reply. Wouldn't Canty have to sit out the upcoming season?

I would not think he would receive a hardship just because the Marshall coach got fired.

With all of the transfers, we are very short on personnel in the back court!

From a quick Google search, I found,  "Canty would have to sit out next season and be eligible in 2015-2016".

Canty and Auburn/USF will file the three or so documents requesting a wavier to the NCAA in hopes that he would be able to play next season. Wherever he goes that University will try that, It's tricky to say the least and it will be about a family illness and his coach being fired I would imagine.

Isn't his family in New York? If he transfers here, would be great to get him this year but does the NCAA have any history of waiving that based strictly on a non-familial coaching change ...?

The NCAA is thinking about making some changes that hardship wavier rule sometime soon.

This quote is HIGH-larious!!

"It was always puzzling why a player who decides to transfer due to family hardship would be allowed to play immediately, or even why the athlete would want to."

He's got cause and effect all backasswards. The H.W. isn't the reason for transferring, it's the enabler.

Former Marshall point guard Kareem Canty will visit South Florida May 2-4, Penn State May 9-11 and UNLV May 12-14 before making his final decision. He visited Auburn April 18-20 and committed to Auburn, but quickly backed off of his commitment because of his want to visit all schools in consideration. Canty will have to sit out the 2014-15 season and will be a junior once eligible for the 2015-16 season.

Would classes being in session help?

Not really certain, but it would show a livelier and active campus.

I certainly hope he doesn't walk in and go"OMG! I can't go to a school with no students!"
