What is the point of announcing your retirement 18 months in advance?

  1. To get paid
  2. To officially surrender
  3. To come clean (been on retirement already)
  4. To save face (assuming there is a shoe to drop)
  5. Get something positive on the internets when people search his name

Won't they also have cool gifts for him at all the away games during his Farewell Tour?

LOL

Yes, his "American" tour will certainly result in much swag, seeing that it's from our competitors. They may hate to see him go though...how dramatic.

Can't wait for UCF to give him 4 military grade puncture proof tires!

Nice one ...

Ucf still has a football bowl ban to follow through on, didn't hear anyone mention this yet.

Didn't they appeal to the NCAA and win?

Yes

Cheating pays major dividends ...UCF to BCS

What I'm missing now is why did you USF make this move?

1) DW has one year left, what's the point of this press release?

2) If they wanted change, why not just cut bait and be done with it?

3) If Judy leaves athletics to DW, who would make such a call --to bench DW?

Are we to assume that Judy got tired and then decided to pull the plug on DW? Or are there people behind the scenes that want change? Really?

4) Now, that it's done (DW out of the way), who's going to take charge that see to the "new" direction of this desire for change at USF athletics (as in the hiring of the right person)?

Originally, I thought there was more to the "second shoe" than it was, and that made sense; Benching DW as a PR move. But since it looks to be not the case at all, this leaves me all confused as to the motive and direction of where this is all leading.

I'm not at all complaining, far from it. I love it!

But who's controlling the ship and where's it heading to?

1.  They wanted to make a change and maybe there's someone that the believe is available, but might not be later (pure speculation)

2.  Because, for his faults, Doug has done some really good things for USF and it really doesn't take much to let him finish out his contract.

3.  Does it really matter

4.  A search committee is going to be used.

I thought TBP was the committee.

An update and clairification....

You guys can believe me or not. I went to USF, graduated in 03 with a major in poli sci, lived in beta hall first year then Fontana. I love the bulls, have been to a ton of games since undergraduate and work at a small law firm in Tampa. I normally lurk, this is the first time I have info... And to be clear, I HATE UCif....

On to the news- talked to my buddy, here is some further background:

- there are indeed NCAA infractions being looked into for MBB, but they are nothing major.

- this put DW on the hot seat, but wasn't a fireable offense.

- the Disney school is indeed in talks w b12 but nothing is final yet.

- USF got wind because DW had an unofficial agreement with the Orlando School that we would be a package deal. The other day UCif called them and told them the deal was off, blaming it on the NCAA infractions.

- when BOT found out about the broken agreement + infractions + b12, they had enough with DW.

- this isn't out yet bc B12 and ucifers have kept it tightly under wraps. USF admin, now that they know, have no such obligation.

- there is more out there, but my friend doesn't know yet....

BS

We have a better market and better athletic revenues than UCF.  Though not by much on either account.

If they can snowball their BCS game into pushing their revenues substantially in front of ours, then they have a case to be clear cut front runners.  Otherwise we're still in a good position, but we need to continue to out hustle them even in our down years.

Have the schools released 2013 yet. I have a hard time believing our sub 20,000 attendance this year would hold that to be true.

UCF is hurting for money right now to be able to aford an invite to BIG 12. They owe C-USA exit fees, AAC entrance fees, and the BIG 12 would have to pay most of that off, Wont be happening anytime soon. Sorry.
