Some excerpts:

Willis, for one, said he will never forget his first position-group meeting with Jim Leavitt in 2011.

“We walked in, and we sat down and he told NaVorro and I with the linebacker corps, he said ‘I'm going to let you guys know now, there’s no egos here on my part, we leave that at the door,’†Willis recalled. “And when he said that, it kind of just let me know then, I'm going to enjoy working for this guy. And it’s been fun every year.â€

....

For all the tackles, fumbles, interceptions and sacks that Willis, Bowman and their fellow ‘backers rack up – and those numbers are impressive – there is this simple notion: Coaches like Leavitt have the ability to motivate great players to be even better.

Arguably the most consistent or best lb corp in the NFL.

Leavitt now has experience with the 3-4 as a lb coach and the 4-3 as a KSU DC and USF head coach. Resume on defense looks good.

Heard Leavitt's name pop up as a possible replacement to Jeremy Pruitt at FSU.

really? that would be crazy and even though he says he mostly doesn't think of USF even if offered(and thats a big IF) i doubt he takes it. more than likely would wait for NFL DC or HC job in college.

Yep, Chris Knee was on XM this morning with Bill King talking about Pruitt's departure (which was inaccurate on reasoning) and possible replacements.  Behind promotions from within regarding Sal Sunseri or Charles Kelly, outside prospect name was Leavitt.

Is there a reason he couldn't ease back into the college ranks with coord job and then later move onto a hc position?

Just speculation on my part but I bet Leavitt's angling for a DC gig with an NFL team at some point... then, who knows?

There's more money in the NFL... just seems like going back to college ball would be a backwards move.

I like Leavitt so I wish him the best of luck.
