gobulls83 your logic on why he isn't an NFL QB makes no sense. The jump Bortles made from the 2012 season to this past one was a huge one, he worked his tail off in the film room and took command of a pro set offense this season, made pre snap reads(something Manziel has never done in his life) , and was CLUTCH. His ability to have an even keel and be relaxed is going to impress NFL GMs. He's kind of a gunslinger who makes a mistake but is not scared to let it rip later in the game. Physically he has all the measurables, the 2 negatives some may point out are footwork at times and mechanics which both can be fixed while he's training with a QB Coach.

You're on a USF message board with some salty posters because of the way our season went and the way yours went. What do you expect? If this were your rivals board and the roles were reversed, every single one of our posters trying to post there would be banned instantly. That place is crazy, gone there once and will never waste my time their again.

gobulls83 your logic on why he isn't an NFL QB makes no sense.

What logic is that? All I said is, watching him play, I don't think he's a star NFL quarterback in the making. The only faulty logic introduced into this thread was by one of you UCF morons who insisted that ESPN has reported that some NFL general managers like him so, hey, he must be a lock to be a star. There are more first round quarterbacks who don't become elite quarterbacks than there are first round quarterbacks who do. This is common sense - if all first round quarterbacks became elite, then more than half the starting quarterbacks in the league would have to be called "elite," and the word would be meaningless. All the stuff you said - there have been plenty of other guys about whom that has been said, who turned into busts.

I've also already said I think Manziel is more likely to be the flop than Bortles is. I've said Bortles' best case is to end up like Alex Smith, and Alex Smith has been a starting quarterback in the NFL for most of the past decade. Oh, how cruel and unfair I'm being to your star player.

Finally, the whole concept of "clutch" in sports is a myth. Get back to me in three years, and we'll see where Bortles' future is heading.

Yea, arguing over whether or not he'll be a good QB is stupid. Let's see where he'll get drafted first. If he goes to a Jacksonville, he'll be screwed regardless of whether he has the tools or not. You UCF fans just better hope he goes to a decent team where he'll have a chance to thrive. Texans, Rams or Bucs and he has a chance. I doubt the Bucs select a QB on their 1st pick though.

American board topic about UCF's QB... at ucf's rivals board you would literally have to post porn to get banned. Mod usually lets the trolls roam free. And I'm not an emotional idiot fan, if USF had a QB that was considered a 1st round QB I wouldn't hold USF against him when trying to evaluate how he translates to the NFL. And Bortles is all class, have you ever heard him talk down about another opponent or do anything to make him unlikable? It's just funny reading gobulls83 logic on why he will fail

Repeating it over and over doesn't make it anymore true. I know trying to get a UCF student or alum to use their brain is like trying to get a fish to stay away from water, but maybe you can find someone who actually knows how to read words with multiple syllables, and get them to explain the content of this thread to you?

I agree with that, there are certain 'black hole' organizations that ruin everybody. The Bucs are starting to turn into that as well, if Lovie doesn't get it right they will turn into the Gulf Coast Raiders. I would love to see him with the Texans under Bill O'Brien

made pre snap reads(something Manziel has never done in his life) ,

Really?  From what I've heard the thing that impresses NFL scouts the most about Manziel is his knowledge of running an offense is way above most QBs at the college level.

Bortles was a beast for UCF and deserves to go in the first round.

I can't find anything wrong with this assessment. Whether it actually translates him into a good NFL QB, I don't know but this kid was a very good leader at UCF. I mentioned time and again, his quick recovery from mistakes was amazing and clearly inspired the rest of the team. I wish him the best in the draft--really glad to see him leave UCF, hopefully will improve our chances next year!

We have some good qbs in the wings as well as solid oline. Qb position will regress, but oline dropoff will be marginal. Losing storm hurts. All other positions will improve.

I know your coaching staff has been better than ours in the last few years, but be careful with that, we thought the same thing recently, had a bunch of guys who had seen lots of time as starters because of injuries the prior season, and then became the starters due to draft or graduation...and it didn't pan out. I used to think guys who got a good amount of playing time during a previous season wouldn't be so green, but it seems that the starters do see many snaps (as opposed to defensive guys who shuffle in and out more often due to being winded) are still beyond the #2s. hopefully there isn't much of a dropoff, but if there's even one guy who is a weak link, a half decent defensive staff will attack that.

We are losing three seniors so we will take a step back, but I think by the second or third game we will be well settled in. We do have really good.coaching at that position. I hear you. Chemistry is key. Our offense will struggle...especially early. Defense will improve drastically with some silents we have at juco
