The only good thing about firing Heath would be that Vega would be gone.

Heath is part of the blame, he micro manges every aspect of the game and takes the game out of the players hands. He does this because he is a micro manager or he feels the players are too stupid to play the game, get in a grove, feel it.

The players are a part(they are soft) dont want to go inside,  take the foul when its there for the taking, Instead they pass the ball to avoid taking the shot(which would cause a foul) They also spread apart when on defense allowing other teams  to come in without a body on them,  like they want NO contact.

Strenght and Condition is the biggest problem though, Rudd and others were gassed last night by the 17 minute mark in the 2nd half. We need to address this poistion asap or the problem wont get any better.  (Do we use the same Strenght coach for Football as well).   No excuse for our players to be gassed halfway thru a game(they are 21-22 year olds , coming off several days without a game playing at home). Time to MAN UP and stop being so soft!!!!!!

As to your #3, look at ND for a good example. 3 of their past 4 games have gone to OT, one of which went to FIVE OT's, and yet they had more fire at the end of the 4th game than we did to open the second half after a break.

Maybe CSH has 'em running gassers in the locker room during the half?

Not the 1st time Stan Heath's conditioning of his players has been in question

After the first few weeks of practice, Pelphrey noticed, to his dismay, how poorly conditioned his basketball team was. Which is the last thing you want to hear as a coach, as a player, and especially as a fan.

Assistant coach Tom Ostrom said, "I told our team that those guys couldn't get

through 15 minutes of practice. They would be looking for the closest

garbage can. And it wasn't just one. It wasn't just two. It was the

whole team. I've never been around a worse-conditioned group of athletes. I don't really care whose fault it is, but it's got to change."

Thanks Stan. Thanks a lot. Maybe that explains the Razorbacks inconsistency last year, Heath's laughable road record, or

the Hogs unforgettable way of crumbling over during big games.

As a player, you hate conditioning. Who doesn't? Line sprints? Nah. I'm alright. Lifting weights? I'll pass. Fast-break drills? Maybe tomorrow. Stairs? I'll get to it later. Well, that's obviously how Stan Heath felt also. Which leads to mediocrity. NIT bids and 1st round NCAA tournament exits. The erratic play of point guard Gary Ervin, the ineffective pick-up style we see from Charles Thomas and Michael Washington, the inconsistent half-court offense and the continually embarrassing attempts to break pressing defenses all stem from the lack of discipline these players have received over the past few years. It's not the players fault. They were never taught. It was obvious last year. Arkansas was "in" pretty much every game they lost. But poor execution and what seemed like a clueless group of guys traces itself back to the coach. These players are athletic, talented, and for the most part, excellent basketball players. But at this level there is no substitute for a coach who understands the importance of discipline and conditioning.

Heath didn't understand that. He was more concerned with being there friend rather than a coach. The players loved Heath. And for good reason. They didn't have to do anything.

Not so very different - really - than Skip's problem as well. Our players were gassed in the second half every game.

Maybe once Willie gets the football team sorted out, he can take over the conditioning for the bball team as well. Willie can be "bad cop" to Stan's "good cop"

Whatever it takes.

Has the basketball team changed their conditioning coach since last year?

If they use the same one as the FB team than I think so, Not sure though,

We now have the guy who came from Stanford, via Towson  for Football. He is new to USF.

Looks like they have their own S&C coach assigned to them. Been there since before the 2009-10 season .... http://www.gousfbulls.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=7700&ATCLID=3753115& ... so that hasn't changed .... other assistants haven't changed since last year, either. Three key variables have changed: Now have a great dedicated practice facility, game venues and players. So if you want to keep whining about the same coaching that produced our best hoops season ever, fine, just know you'll look like a **** fool doing it.

Our team isn't very good right now, since we don't have a big and a real SG playing. We have a top 20 class coming in next year (Top 20 Class) and if we get Henry, it could be top 15-18. USF would be stupid to fire Heath right now. Patience.
