Would we be ok if it took ten years to get there? 'Cause as nice and wonderful and sayin'-the-right-thang as the new head coach may be, we are no longer 'on the inside' (which hurts) and we have to rebuild (which hurts) and it's going to take YEARS to impress the powers that be that USF warrants a second look. I don't know how much walloping SMU, Memphis and ECU is going to impress the judges, but getting ranked and a good bowl probably won't happen in the next five years. Will there still be the BCS bowls or will those now be play off game? There will be six games in a rotation for the playoff semifinals on an annual basis (current 4 plus Dallas and Atlanta). Each year two of those six will be designated as the host sites for the semifinals, with the other 4 hosting their regularly scheduled access teams, whether that be by agreements or at larges. The National Championship will be bid out annually on its own like the Super Bowl and can be hosted at any site from what I've understood, not just one of the 6 BCS locations. Needless to say, I have also heard that the usual 6 BCS games will be played closer to the week between Christmas and New Years, rather than New Years at the earliest, to help with fan travel, but the NCG would still be about a week later than the semifinals Edited January 7, 2013 by bull2saintleo

But, with the weakened BE, we are officially out of potentially making the playoff even with an undefeated team. A Big 5 team will always jump us even with 1 or possibly 2 losses depending on the team and their schedule. There will be a spot for the highest ranked team of the non power conferences in the playoffs. That is guaranteed. ... the commissioners and presidents who oversee the sport agreed to include a guaranteed spot in one of the six premier bowls for the highest-ranked champion (as determined by the new selection committee) from the so-called "Group of Five:" the Big East, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt. The access bowl is guaranteed from the G5. Do you think a top 4 nationally ranked Big East team isn't going into the playoffs? Highly ranked outsider teams not having access to the NC is exactly why they now have a championship. If a Big East team is ranked 3 or 4 in the polls and doesn't get into the playoffs, the uproar will collapse the playoff system and cause yet another redoing of the system to crown the NC. No it won't. Heck, the BCS did more than their fair share of this for over a decade and no one flinched until they were told the money would double with a playoff...
