Out of nowhere our team reached #2 status. Though it was a flash in the pan, it was a pretty epic flash to live in for that moment. Even if we, say, made the Orange Bowl this year, I don't think it'd be as epic as shooting up the #2 when nobody knew the name of our university. Grothe embodied that team. Sure, he had a lot of help, but he was the face. Yes, even over All American George Selvie who by the middle of conference play was already proving to not be as good as the hype, and Mike Jenkins who was **** good, but was a CB and had a limited ceiling "favorite" wise for most because of that.
