KB: First story, second paragraph:

"Rafferty's mother, Tracy, confirmed that USF has rescinded its scholarship offer to her son ..."

Confirmed, as in, second person corroborating high school coach who called newspaper to tell us same thing ...

The funny thing is that nowhere in Joey's article is there a quote from someone that the offer got pulled.

I see that Greg, but no quotes from her directly back that up.  Am I wrong?  Did the coach talk to USF?

Wells could have said "we don't want you" ...but they heard "we pulled your scholly."  Two different things.

Sorry on Wilkie/Willie. Tweeting while driving to Shrine Game practice. Databull, this is on the Times? HS coach and kid said USF rescinded offer, but we're wrong to allow them to say that? Let me work on that apology ...

**** well better be Tweeting per voice command ....

And even though USF can't publicly talk about specific recruits, they can talk to the coaches and parents involved, who can talk to the press. If this was truly just a miscommunication problem, Knight or whoever should have a follow up.

Not to belabor the point and I had no problem with the reporting, but I was under the impression that the Coach and the mom both got their info from what wells said to Connor. So, they both got it 2nd hand and both were actually the same source.

As I've already said, any responsible father gets that clarified with the call back to the coach.

No need to get defensive, not an easy job.

It's just as I read the article, everything either parent said about what the coach said did not jive with "pulled the offer".  As far as two sources, isn't it most likely that the high school coach got the story from the same source?  That source being the kid or his parents?  As I read the article, I was thinking to myself why didn't the reporter ask more questions because it sounds like the parents are unclear or confused.  But I don't know what was asked and answered, so I really can't say.

Personally, I'd have gone with a headline more along the lines of "Offer Apparently Pulled".

And as we've already said, do you know this father?

Don't bother...the fish I wrap with it really don't care!
