USF football coach Wilkie Taggart wants to make this clear: All recruits who committed to USF under Skip Holtz have a scholarship available.

This is sounding more and more like Wells called to let the kid know he probably wasn't going to play much and it blew way out of proportion...

Most likely.

And of course we have those on here that run with it before knowing all the facts.

Part of this is the kids fault. Why would you stop attending camps just because you get one offer? Schools offer more than they can take all the time, hell UF has more committs now than schollies. You expect kids to change their minds, this kid put all his eggs in one basket. He will get a ride playing D1-AA at the worst so don't feel too bad for him

blaming the kid huh?

Why would you stop going to camps? I graduated 2 years ago with multiple good friends playing D1 ball. Ive been around the recruiting process, I know that anytime you have a chance to get your name out there and show coaches you can play, you take advantage of it. Sounds to me like this kid got the offer he wanted and became content. All coach T is saying is he isn't the top of their board and he would be smart trying to get PT somewhere else. As a parent, they should be grateful he did that instead of leading him on and then come Soph or Jr year realize he isn't sniffing the field.

I feel bad for the kid.  Some things shouldn't go to the press by these parents and coaches.  Your kid is not good enough to play for USF and/or is not wanted by this coaching staff.  That's the bottom line.  Save some face, spare your kid (or player) some emberassment, and find somewhere else to play.  Don't whine about it to the press.

As the kid, the last thing I would want is a sympathy scholly at this point, whether it got out in the press or not.

As coach T tweeted:  Life is fair. It's hard on everyone.#DoSomething

Seems like his only fault was trusting USF's football program. There's so much crap involved with football recruiting, you can't blame him at all. They don't exactly have courses on it.
Like you said, there is a ton of crap involved with this stuff. So yes, unfortunanely trusting ANY football program too much is a mistake. Its not like he lost his offer, he was simply told he wouldnt be at the top of their list. Who knows if Skip even had him pegged as a potential starter or mostly depth? Like an early poster mentioned, I do feel for the kid because of how this has gotten public and Im sure is becoming at least semi-embarrassing. At the same time, he is still going to be getting a pretty good education while playing the game he loves for free or at a significant discount so it isn't like his life is ending. Which is what I said when this first came out.  I think the Times blew this with their headline.

Sorry on Wilkie/Willie. Tweeting while driving to Shrine Game practice. Databull, this is on the Times? HS coach and kid said USF rescinded offer, but we're wrong to allow them to say that? Let me work on that apology ...

Just busting your chops, Greg...sorry! :)

No apology needed...Times was just reporting. We'd just like everything to be slanted to make USF look the best it can, please. ;)

The funny thing is that nowhere in Joey's article is there a quote from someone that the offer got pulled.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
