I could have started a separate thread for this, but decided to put it here.

Some interesting comments from Big East fans about the USF style of play. LOL

It's a premium article, so I'm not cutting and pasting the commentary, but here is his list:

1. Louisville

2. Syracuse

3. Notre Dame

4. Marquette

5. Pitt

6. Georgetown

7. Cincinnati

8. USF

9. Rutgers

10. UConn

11. St. John's

12. Villanova

13. Seton Hall

14. Providence

15. DePaul

Here's the quotes from the last page::

Well one of the reasons USF lacked double-digit scores was the pace at which the Bulls played last year. It was mind-numbingly slow on both ends of the court, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. They focused on defense and dictated the pace of play which won them a number of games. Essentially USF and their opponents had fewer possessions which equated to fewer points.

The only difference for next season is if Stan Heath decides to change that pace.

USF uglied its way to a pretty **** good season. Painful to watch, but effective. I think they will be a tough team to beat again.

I still have nightmares about playing USF....and we split the series. That was a team I didn't want to face last March.

USF style of basketball was UGLY. However, they did win some games so they are doing something right. Please, please don't try to be another Pitt and their ugly brand of basketball.

LOL...last year's USF team made Pitt look like an ACC team.

USF get u into their style & you're toast....they was the last team to beat us before the Final Four...let's just say after that game you had a complete meltdown here in Louisville...ppl was call'n for Pitino head.

USF, do what it takes to win basketball games. I for one am glad that you have stepped up. Hopefully Houston can come back & be the force they were in the 60's, 70's & 80's. I still remember Psi Slamma Jamma with two of the Top 50 players in the history of basketball with original Dream Teamer Clyde "The Glide" Drexler & Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon.

MORE ROOT CANAL!!! :GoBulls:

And take a step back??? They can still defend because Heath has always had good defensive teams, but the pace will have to pick up or we're going to struggle to win enough games to get back to the NCAAT. This will be a good defensive team but the way they defend won't be the same w/o Gus, Ron, and Hugh.

On another note I wonder how much Heath is enjoying the "ugly style reference" during the zenith of recruiting? Heath certainly became more hostile towards anyone labeling USF as an "ugly unwatchable team that set the game back 30 years" towards the end of last season.

When Heath recruits he normally promises these young guys that they will play at a faster pace then what they have been told by others. Judging by the way recruiting has gone so far I think "Iba Ball" is hurting USF.

The best offense is often a strong defense.

Hopefully, we will have both this year.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
