This is part of what triggered A&M to reach out to the SEC. The Longhorns had made concessions to the BigXII about the network content but then a rouge blogger's freedom of information act request revealed that Texas had been disingenuous with the rest of the BigXII teams. They agreed to no HS or live conf games on the network but then TX after the network got started made moves for both offering Texas Tech a few million to air their game on LHN but Tech basically said to screw off. I don't think Texas will give up their network and I think they have a high chance of ending up independent in football like ND because conferences don't want their network baggage. It's that type of stuff within the BigXII which is why the conference is falling apart. They have some strong teams right now (TAMU, OU, Texas, Baylor, OSU all ranked and Mizzou just fell out) but they are not united. Right now the Longhorn Network isn't exactly doing great. It's basically being carried in several Texas markets and that's about it. No DirecTV. It's on FIOS, but that's the only national carrier. No Time Warner. No UVerse. The Longhorn Network probably will end up as a regional network and Texas' dreams of becoming a national football power will fade. Texas won't work so well as an independent. They could do okay, but more money can be made with a conference deal. The big key is that NBC is still looking for a deal with a conference. That's where dissolving the Big XII and dissolving the football end of the Big East might make some sense, allowing teams to come together and form an all-new conference that can negotiate TV rights and pick up most of the Big XII and Big East bowl vacancies.Texas may be tempering their expectations at this point. This is certainly a time of tremendous change in intercollegiate athletics and, clearly, that change may continue," the statement read."We have been monitoring the landscape and have been actively engaged in dialogue at the conference and national levels over the last 18 months. That will continue in earnest as we move forward."
