The BE was #6 going in,  and will be #6 coming out of expansion.

You're basing this off of what exactly?

The ACC and the Big East have usually been ranked 5/6, with the ACC being 6 more than the Big East.

Perception, because the ACC has, "name" schools such as Miami, VaTech, FSU, etc.

if anything, I would think this last expansion widened the gap between #6 and #7, especially with the hits the MWC took.

WVU, Syracuse, and Pitt are "name" schools too.  They saw national championships before any of the aforementioned you bring up.  The ONLY difference is the ACC has more name schools then the Big East...with Clemson, and Gtech still evoking past images of greatness.

With all that being said the Big East maybe 5th/6th in football but we're #1 by a large margin in men's and women's hoops.  And our hoops interest, and commitment doesn't just dominate a small region in NC called Tobacco Road, it dominates the entire Northeastern Landscape which includes three of the top 4 tv markets in NYC, and Philly, along with DC, Pitt, and Chicago.  The Big East Tournament is treated like a spectacle as big as the Final Four for some in the Northeast.  The tix go for as much as $10k for the week on stubhub.  Women's hoops isn't much worse as three of the top 10 attendance for hoops are by BE schools.

Average it out and the Big East is fine so goknightfl can trivialize football all he wants, but adding in hoops and we are a major player in major conference talk.  CASE CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And because of that the rumors persist that schools like KU, and KSU are unhappy with the new uneven B12 power model and would LOVE a possible option to jump to a conference like the BE with a slightly more hoops centric slant that would share the wealth and power.

So to me those are just numbers....the only numbers I think about are this- 1 automatic BCS qualifier, 5 built in bowl bids, and 11 possible NCAA bids for men, and maybe 8 for women's hoops.  The amount of NCAA units the BE has is enormous.  Now adding TCU, and the Dallas market....and TCU with full-time BIG EAST< and NYC and ESPN exposure should allow us to blow up in the Dallas market a bit more-- the #5 tv market.  I am betting BE officials are so exited about the next round of television contracts.

and by metrics instead of perception in football we are really like #4 on the ladder the last 4 or so years.

Speaking of Kanasa and Kansas State rumors.....if you are looking for some interesting (yet probably worthless) reading, check out the following link on Killer Frogs. The OP is flat out loony IMO....but check out post #22 on page 2, makes sense if that is what is going on. I could see Nova being #10 and then have KU with KSU at #11 and #12 and call it a day.

The Big 12-2 could easily reload and replace those 2 with BSU and BYU or Houston or whomever.
