Prior to the season....many pundits were saying we would not even be bowl eligible.

Quoting Rivals and Scout team rankings only validates how little you understand about recruiting. Rivals and Scout are there to make fans and recruits happy and sell subscriptions-- that's it.

!!!THIS!!!

Please find me the last national champion that wasnt in the top 15 of rivals or scout's rankings.

Maybe scout isnt perfect, but they know more about this stuff than anyone posting on this forum.

Coach Holtz is building the football program the right way. From the inside out. It shows in this recruiting class with the total of linemen they brought in. There's two things a football team needs to do to win championships. You must run the ball(successfully), and stop the run. If you're great at those things, you win. Watch the Super bowl, and check the stats of the winner.

Thats one of those common myths. A good quarterback is far more valuable than a good running game and good run defense.

There is a reason that the NFL teams with Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Brady, and Aaron Rodgers are always good.

That said, this was a solid recruiting class, it irritates me that we cant do better than this, because I feel like at this point we should be getting 6-8 4 star guys a year, but I think at least the guys we got seem to be high quality individuals and solid players.

Brady plays behind a Top 3 OL, Manning Top 5 others Top 10 or so. All those teams also have dominant DL in Wilfork, Raji, Freeny, Mathis etc.

A good running game is important at all three levels. You have to keep the defense honest and be able to get the hard yardage.

Big 4-5 stars does not =success. Look at Georgia and they lost to UCF. TCU and Boise State do it with recruits lime USF. Caching and desire are gonna make you a winner.

Getting 6-8 four star recruits per year is a bit much. The most should be about 4 four stars. I think in about 3-4 years this class could be one of the best. Remember Coach Holtz look at system guys. So these guy will develop into something.

dude the bcs only allows for the top 15 programs to play for a national championship. how hard is it for rivals to list them in no particular order.

look at conference champs from last year and compare them to their peers.

UConn and Wisconsin don't crack the top half of their own conference yet they won them.

Virginia Tech is between #4 and #7 for the last  4 years, behind Miami and FSU every year, yet they dominate that conference.

I'll give you OU but that's because the big 12 is top heavy with texas (nationally top 10 class every year- 5-7 record last year).

12-1 Oregon finished behind 4-8 UCLA for 3 straight years in recruiting.

last year the top 3 recruiting champs finished with a 21-17 record.

rivas is junk. you can't tell me they can evaluate high school kids and definitively rate Northwestern's as better than USF's. It's not possible.

It was a solid class, nothing too great, nothing terrible.

And that's fine.

What coach doesn't "look at system guys," whatever that means?
