A BCS game would be huge for recruiting, but, I still think that a typical kid, going to any high school in Florida will take more notice in us beating UF than being turned on by a USF team that goes 8-4, wins the Big East and plays in the BCS game that was stuck with the last pick, probably against a non-qualifier and maybe gets beat.

I could be wrong, there is really no way to prove either side of this argument. I truly hope that in the very near future, we win the Big East. I just hope that we don't stop scheduling the Big Guys, and we don't start losing every time we play a Big OOC game. You can only do that for so long before winning a mediocre conference isn't good enough any more.

I'll give you this, a BCS game would do probably do more for finances than the "signature" wins. However, in the games after FSU and Auburn, our attendance was off the charts. This year, the Syracuse game attendance sucked, our fans, IMHO, mirror potential recruits in this area. Being in a BCS conference gives us the chance to play for a national championship or in a BCS game, but the true excitement comes from winning games against the big boys of college football. Three years ago we were ranked No. 2 in the nation, if we had a few more players, and had gotten a few breaks, we would have played for a national championship. Not because we skated through the Big East, but because we stunned the world by beating Auburn at their place, and got our selves on the map.

To football savvy state of Florida recruits ... BE Championship < Win over one of Big 3, or any other nationally recognized programs.

+1

I think we finally agree on something...

Bah .... We probably agree on a lot of things. You just don't realize it.   ;)

e.g. you both like beer?

There ya go ....

So, what helps us more, a win against FSU/Auburn, or, winning the Big East when no one has any respect for the conference anyway? Eventually, the recruits we get from the BIG wins would win a conference and go on to bigger and better things.

If USF wins the Big East...USF will get to play in a BCS Bowl Game....

Seriously ...?

and a lot more viewers nationwide (and future recruits) watch BCS Bowl Games vs those that would watch USF/Auburn or USF/FSU play...

True .... but we're not talking about television ratings, we're talking about making impressions ... and impressions are results oriented which means you're completely missing the details of the debate ... as usual.

so yes, USF would benefit MORE if they won the Big East and got to play on a National Stage in a BCS Bowl Game.

That's not a GIVEN. Which do you think would have benefitted Cincy more, as far as recruiting in Ohio, getting embarrassed two years in a row in a BCS bowl or beating OSU in Columbus?

Maybe even win it too).

Are recruits impressed with watching people lose on national television? Rick has us building a program with no regard for being able to compete with SEC and ACC teams, so losing BCS games doesn't seem too appealing to me.

Who says you have to lose BCS Bowl Games?

Heck...UL and WVU have won BCS Bowl Games in the recent past...so why can't USF?

One way you will never win a BCS Bowl Game is to not play in one (i.e. never win a Big East Championship), as the Big East hasn't really come close in getting two teams into BCS Bowls during the same y ear.

I know people jump on your because you're a UCF fan,

It is deeper than that ..... far, far deeper.  ;)

Well seeing how USF has already beat one of the Big 3...but USF's recruiting hasn't come close to the recruiting classes of the big 3...your scenario is/has not worked...

Right, my scenario was one win over a Big 3 will give us a top ten recruiting class ... ::)

but while its not a given that winning a BCS Game would help recruiting, it might take something like that to help improve USF's out-of-state recruiting, which many on here seem to want to improve.

We're not talking about winning a BCS bowl game, we're talking about just winning the BE... Pay attention.

In regards to Cinci...Cinci won back-to-back Big East Championships....and Cinci has sold a record number of football season tix and increased their football donations to record levels.

Link? .... and how has it affected their recruiting ... which is kind of the crux of what we're talking about.

Recruits care about name recognition, yes, but they also care about getting to the NFL. The way to do that is to do well in a ranked program. I dont care how well we do against UF, UM, FSU or any other single big name game, losing the conference = not ranked, no national exposure, no good recruits.

As CSH has said time and again the focus is the BEast Championship, as well it should be. And with the way we played on Saturday, there's no way that will happen.

Not to mention the fact that we don't even know how conference realignment will shake down- if the superconference is the wave of the future, no one will want to absorb some bottom feeding big east team.

The best way to improve recognition, recruitment and stability for our future is to win the Big East consistently.

If this is the case then Skip had better turn this program around quick... according to the rumor mills the Big East has about 1-2 years tops before the Big Ten comes in and takes its pick of the litter.

I love the fallacy that is always tossed out by the "beat the big 3 is the best way to advance the program" crowd.  You notice that the assumption is that we cannot with the BE without going 8-4 or some other less than stellar record.  Going 8-4 beating, not winning your conference (since you guys argue this isn't important) and beating the Big 3 isn't doing much good either as those programs will just spin it to recruits as "It was a fluke they can't even win that joke of a conference they are in.  We need a guy like you to make sure this doesn't happen".  Also beating the Big 3 relies directly on their willingness to schedule us in the future after the current series expires where as we at least have an opportunity to win the BE every year.  You want to advance the program you have to do well in the things you as a program can actually control and that's winning the conference and BCS games.  It's a lot easier to convince a recruit of "we are winning the conference we need you to come in put us over the hill to win those BCS games" or if you are winning those games already "We are already getting to and winning BCS games we need you to get us to the national championship game, and we can offer you more immediate playing time than those other 3 in state schools".  Beating the big 3 is a nice feather in the cap when you get the opportunity but if you do it without winning the BE it really doesn't help all that much.  Look at how recruiting has gone this season so far and we beat one of the big 3 last season.......
