SO, based on the first game, USF is slightly better than their best average since they went to I-A.

We only had 4 penalties in the late 3rd-early 4th (can't remember exactly when the last three happened) but it was almost all with 2nd and 3rd teams - our first team offense and defense did a great job reducing penalties.  I expect the totals to go up next week with more emotion and exuberance, but overall I think the team looked well-coached on the little things (except the special teams fumbling).

I was frustrated with the early penalties but at least they weren't of the personal foul...late hit....type. I gotta think the having too many in the backfield is an easy correction.

The illegal formation on the punt that would have been downed at the 5 was bad. The punter had to kick again and put his knee down and turned the ball over in our territory. That then led to one of the two touchdowns.

It wasn't the STUPID penalties that we was sooooo use to. So glad not to see that.

Nothing incredibly dumb.  Glad to see #89 get benched after consecutive false start penalties.  Same with Hornes after screwing the pooch on speical teams.

Hornes needs to be permanently taken off of punt returns cuz he couldn't catch punts last year either

Very true, but that is a very correctable mistake.
