Do Navy & Army travel well? We see the crowd for the Army-Navy game but what about beyond that?

It's an example of TRADITION. Both these service academies don't have to travel well. It's the Army, the Navy.. they have lots of active duty service members everywhere, not to mention veterans everywhere, who can't wait for the opportunity to see their team. If the bowl is in a large city or accessible to a nearby military installation, they will come. Even TV viewers will watch a little Army v. Navy game. It's tradition.

This how Navy gets their bowls. Army? The same thing as long as they win enough games.

Someone didn't click on the link I provided... ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

In 2005, the Midshipmen sold 20,000 tickets for the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, and officials estimate that Navy helped draw up to 35,000 people to the contest.

Navy brought 18,000 fans to the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco in 2004. A year before that, Navy brought 25,000 fans to the Houston Bowl, leading to a record crowd of 51,068.

Yeah, Navy travels VERY well.

"The payout difference between the Gator Bowl and Texas Bowl is significant."

Bowl money is paid from the conference and not directly from the respective bowls.

After the other football money from tv, I think the bcs & bowl money goes something like this:

1st place - $2.4 million

2nd place $1.8 million

3rd place - $1.5 million

4th place - $1.2 million

5 - 8 - $1.0 million per school.

Army and Navy travel very well.

I think Syracuse has an outside chance of getting to 6 games this year.

Congrats on beating the heels.

Not that it would be significant but wouldn't the conference get the money for the sixth bowl game if we were able to get 6 teams eligible and were able to fill a slot in someone else's bowl? i.e. the mention of Syracuse in the Independance Bowl by CFN.

That is correct.  If we send another team outside our current agreements the confrence gets more money.  This money wouldn't amount to much because it will be a bottom tier bowl.

I didn't think we could count the win against the I-AA team because we counted a I-AA win last season? Thought you could do that only every four years? So technically a win this Sunday would "NOT" make us bowl eligible??? Any help on this?

New rule in the NCAA bowl regulations. If you have a twelve game season, you can count one DIV1-aa win towards your 6. Seems a bit backasswards but I'll take it

We need to keep increasing the number of fans traveling to Bowl games. While Birmingham might not sound like a good location the ONLY way the Big East and USF will get better Bowl deals in the future are if our fan base proves it will go to Bowl games. Plain and simple.
