If we go to Birmingham, I will be there, but I'd rather see a southern miss rematch

So are they expecting a Louisville collapse?

Not necessarily... Louisville went to the Gator Bowl last year - and bowl games don't usually like to take the same team two years in a row... So if Louisville doesn't get to the BCS (as Big East champion or an at-large selection), then Louisville could easily end up in Texas...

True, but the Gator Bowl is typically set for the #2 Big East team (and #3? Big 12 team). The payout difference between the Gator Bowl and Texas Bowl is significant. How would Louisville feel is they were out right second and ended up in a lower bowl?

Sure, Louisville might be upset about that, but they got the cash last year and will still share in the conference revenue from the five bowls.

The Gator Bowl doesn't really get the "#2 Big East team".  The Gator Bowl gets to pick first after the BCS... so they get the second "pick" of all eligible teams.  If Pitt is 9-3 or 10-2, they would be a decent choice to face the 3rd pick from the ACC.

The Gator Bowl could also opt to take a Big 12 team instead of Louisville which would probably send the Cardinals to the Sun Bowl.  In the Big 12, the Gator Bowl selects 4th after the BCS.  (Big 12 2nd pick goes to Cotton, Big 12 3rd pick goes to Holiday)

How did the Navy deal go down with the Meineke Car Care Bowl , did it just start for this yr? Is this something we are gonna have to deal with every yr. Its a good bowl and one I much rather go to than Birmingham or Toronto, I think it stinks that we have to compete for a spot with schools out of conference for a bowl that is affiliated with the Big East.

It is just for this year and happened during the off season.

In 2008, 2009, and 2010 Navy has a deal with the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.  The Poinsettia Bowl has a one-year deal with Army this season, if the Black Knights can get to 6-6 (currently 3-4).

Not sure what will happen with Meineke in 2007, though... Charlotte was a lot of fun... Toronto is acutally a much better city, but the distance will make it harder for Bulls fans.  Houston would be a fun bowl, though... if we could get there.

The ULTIMATE reason why the Big East doesn't get respect is two-fold.  First, Big East fans do not travel as well as other conferences.  WVU and Pitt travel fairly well, but even Louisville fans are not yet used to the Big Time -- which means that "holiday plans" always include a bowl game.  Bowl committees want to sell hotel rooms and tickets.  Second, the Big East doesn't yet have a national following that will attract television audiences.  Sponsors will pay more money for the right to advertise during a game if there are more viewers.

Until that changes, the Big East will still be an also ran when it comes to bowl slots.

It's a one year deal with them. After which Navy has a 3 year deal with the Poinsetta Bowl in San Diego.

Army is in negotiations for a 2-3 years deal with the MCCB if they were to be bowl eligible, so we may have to fight with that.

It was set up because it's no secret, while the BE schools are pretty good, they don't have the fan bases that will make their bowl games money. I think bringing 4,500 fans last year to the MCCB wasn't good. Further Pitt didn't sell out their BCS allotment and BE attendance average is around 35,000 for the year.

I can see us bringing 12K to the Gator Bowl if chosen, too bad they won't give us a chance.

Put your feet on the ground and take off the bull&gold shades.  8K is more like it.

As TV advertising goes for pre-Jan 1 bowls, I'm betting ESPN has most of that wrapped up before the bowls are set.  Especially for preChristmas bowls.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
