We were talking to Coach Leavitt today and of course being the complete idiot that I am, I weasled in the topic of an OCS... Because I'm so gung-ho for the idea of one, I never stopped to really think about about it, but his response was pretty clear...

Pitt, Miami, and USC have all won titles and don't have an OCS...  What we need to do above all else is win.

I gotta agree, from now on I'll take no part in the OCS debate.              maybe.

To be fair, didn't Pitt have an OCS when they won a NC?

And USC's is RIGHT across the street. It would be like our on campus stadium being on MOSI land.

That being said, an OCS and national titles have NO correlation, it is merely a pride/convinence thing.

Miami is the ultimate example and USC , if you want to be technical is next in line.

However, having an OCS has no correlation to W's.

You don't build a stadium to win -you build a stadium to have a home.

Prime example for you guys (For better or worse!) will be when you visit a UCF game in 2006 (ideally you would observe the campus the day before and after as well as the C-Bowl the day of the game) and then in the future if we play again in Orlando on campus.

Seriously, you guys are in a great situation to learn from our expirament.  If it goes good, I expect to see you guys announce plans within 3 years.  If it doesn't - then we saved you a bunch of wasted research costs and other funds while not getting that big of a first mover advantage for building it first.

I have to disagree with that part of your post. Your situation is so much more different than ours is. The main reason is the condition of the stadium you currently play in, as opposed to RJS. The move for UCF to build an OCS is a no brainer in looking at how bad a shape the Citrus Bowl is in. Raymond James Stadium is still a fairly new stadium, with so many amenities. The seats are also being replaced this year.

I think that USF has their timetable as to when it will be feasible to build an OCS, and that is a good number of years away. With all the athletic facilities on campus being upgraded over the next few years that would put an OCS at the bottom of the list, due to the great condition of RJS.

I agree with Flip.  USF is in no rush to build an OCS, simply because we don't have to be.  UCF's situation was diametrically opposite of ours, they needed it, and needed it bad.  USF will wait and get their ducks in a row instead of pushing the envelope unnecessarily.

An on campus stadium makes for good water cooler talk but since we can't control that other than showing up for games, 'd rather talk about earning that first BCS bid.

That alone would do more for a quality....with the emphasis on quality....OCS than any message board chatter.

How many days until kickoff?

Actually it's merely a necessity.  Most schools are in smaller towns and have NO CHOICE but to build their own stadium.  And, if they're gonna build, where else but on school owned property (on campus.)  You certainly wouldn't build your barn on your neighbor's farm?

That's really the only (certainly the major) reason schools have an OCS.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”
