  1. Well since I came over BEFORE the game I figured I'd come by afterwards. Sorry that Maltiqua was able to single-handedly keep 10 of you up all night. We all have our message-board vigilantes. He's apparently our version of FLSportsfan83 - but seemingly less emo. Anyway - that was a great college basketball game. It really was. Nothing came easy for either team. I know you were missing some guys - as were we (Diakite and Gaynor). It's tough to say how much that affected us since we're talking about freshmen in a cast full of freshmen. What we lost in Gaynor inside was made up for by surprising performances by Davis and Zondevan. Look - this thread has been crapped out. There's nothing to say about football. It is what it is - and we are on the losing side of that. Even when you gave us the game - we weren't good enough to beat you either time (06, 08). Basketball - 18-5. I dig it. Since this was our first win against you since 1994...I have to wonder if that means 3 of our wins came as a DII team - which makes me wonder why you even throw that stat around? That's worse than losing to Bethune-Cookman. But it's your stat to throw around so do with it as you wish. Last night was a great game. Vega - you've lost a lot of credibility with me going back to the Clanton thread on the prospect board. You seem to know a lot about the game - but have an incredible bias. Why did Clanton choose UCF? Your analysis - he didn't want to compete against the best. My analysis (which incidentally matches what he said) - he liked the fan support. You guys also make yourselves sound even worse when you say "Oh look - this is UCFs final four" because our fans are loud and our coach is pumped up. Crazy story - that's how most schools with successful programs are EVERY night. You guys have a great coach in Jim Leavitt and I've seen him get crazy against some bad teams. We undoubtedly had a higher than usual turnout because it was an in-state game - but we had over 5K for most of C-USA play last year and the efforts to make our student section one of the best are paying off. As long as you are citing watching a football game on TV as a reason to not go to a game in-person 60 miles away as your reason - then expect to be making excuses for kids like Clanton coming to UCF instead of USF for many years to come. Frankly, your support is terrible and your team deserves better.
  2. I usually get myself in a bit of trouble on our boards for defending you guys when the usual suspects bring up stupid stuff over and over - and still do when it's something stupid. But, your program isn't helping me out lately. You don't have to be a UCF homer to draw many many comparisons between UCFs program under Kruczek to the one you have now. The difference is your conference and your coach being smart enough to recruit inside as well as skill players. But, off the field, it's very similar. It would be interesting to see how much of UCFs problems under Kruz would have been handled differently if we were winning more games.
  3. Whoa there buddy - once could rationalize some things about your identity as it relates to UCF based on your large assertions. Did you even read that thread? Sounds like most of the UCF fans, if not all, are taking a "wait and see" attitude since the original poster could not provide anything more than "I saw it on TV" - which leaves room for error on the original posters end.
  4. Of course we do...it's our forum. To say the majority of our fans care about USF is silly. Yes there are like 10 threads on the front page...half started by USF fans...and of the half started by UCF fans, they're 2-3 people. Most of our fans are sick of the banter and don't even visit the open board and stick to the premium board. I also think you just underestimate how many fans we have.
  5. Looks like we've hired a former standout player from USF who was later an assistant at Florida and most recently head coach at Murray State, Joi Felton. More info: http://ucfathletics.com/ Hope it works out well for us and for her!
  6. Knight_Fan is right - and it holds true for UCF, Marshall and everyone else too. Most people are jumping on this like it is an internet poll...so who knows what will happen when the order forms get e-mailed out. Also - those forms were supposed to be sent out starting in "mid-february." UCF got wind of the contest on 3/19 and you guys did just the other day but none of us have gotten order forms yet. Kinda hard to get 1,000 orders by 3/31 without an order form before then! I think Athlon had a good idea, but didn't necessarily market it right.
  7. Thanks for %$@%ing on my thread KL.... But good point about playing Stetson. UCF would never play them. And if UCF and USF play I'm sure neither team will play Stetson. >
  8. Any we couldn't do that if the games were 2 years apart??
  9. It's posted on UCFsports.com (article, not message board post) as from Speraw's mouth (I don't think it was in quotes.) I will say that I'm surprised this decision was made before hiring the new coach with so much time left to work on schedules for next year.
  10. The first game will be in Tampa and then in Orlando the next season. It would be cool to move the football game to November down the road (It's time for UCF and USF to grow up and not worry about having a game on the same day as the big FSU/UF game...time for the fans to choose!!) and make a weekend out of it. Anyway - just wanted to pass the news along. Good luck on the coaching hunt. Let's see if we can keep this post on the main board instead of the Dumbgeon
  11. I vote for 196 teams. March 8th-11th Playoff Weekend - Gametracker available for most games! Seeds #17 through #48 compete on Friday and Saturday on a geographical basis at local community colleges. To try and reduce costs on the smallest of the division I schools - regular season results can be used in place of the tournament game if both teams met (and scored) in the last 3 seasons. March 15th-18th Play-In Weekend - ESPN Deutsch available for most games! The 32 winners from weekend 1 compete against seeds #9-#16 at the school of the lower seed. Students at schools with...um..less established...athletic programs everywhere discover why that building where they hold graduation has a basketball net hanging from the ceiling and rush to buy tickets to their first hosted NCAA Game. (Stop and imagine how confusing it would be to never go to a basketball game and then get to the Arena on the big graduation day and see the other conference schools names up on the wall. "Pssst...hey Jessica...we did graduate from UNC right? Because I see Florida State on that banner and that's not funny, my parents will kill me") March 22nd-25th NCAA Fifth and Sixth Rounds - Available on ESPN Duke (All Duke, all the time) 65-teams** A few weeks late and a few small athletic departments shut down later, teams like Campbell and New Jersey Tech can finally hit the hardwood as coaches have tried to keep their kids away from watching "Sportarten-Center" on ESPN Deutsch to avoid the hype and hoopla of being a #16 seed (out of 48). ** = Despite having 192 slots open in "The U"'s NCAA tournament format, the powers that be (Alabama's Board of Trustees) have extended their influence to basketball and insisted that the MEAC champion be an honorary 65th-seed awarded to the #1 national seed. (Oh yeah, sorry UAB, the BOT said post-season play isn't in your interests anymore, so beating Memphis is as good as it gets). By the way, additional coercing from Urban Meyer helped make it all possible. March 29th - April 1st NCAA Seventh and Eighth Rounds (Sweet 16, Elite 8) - CBS Will there be a Cinderella in the form of a 37 seed making it into April or will the 6'3 Big Man from Savannah State be the April Fool? April 6th - April 7th NCAA Final Four - CBS As a result of the several weeks of bye-weeks, fans from many top programs realized that baseball was played at the intercollegiate level and miss their teams Final Four appearance. They do not miss seeing Joachim Noah pound on his chest after the first field goal of the game. April 9th - 13th NCAA Division-I National Championship Week The NCAA, upon passing the BCS and the Roman Catholic Church in net worth, has realized that it can make more money by playing this many games and, well, one good turn deserves another so the National Championship is now a Best of 5 series. Many players from top schools have been declared ineligible having already been drafted by the NBA. Because of this, #43-seed Mercer may for once, not be, "Werser" as they win it all in front of 36 fans (43,000 fans according to ticket counters borrowed by the University of South Florida). The NCAA deemed this a great success and went into the off-season with a new commerical "Out of the over 4 million Division 1 Student-Athletes, a lot of us go pro in something other than sports. In fact most become one of over 1700 waterboys and the rest went to The U" Note: Due to Title 9 rules, all 191 Womens NCAA tourament games will be aired on ESPN or CBS. Basketball Arenas in Canada and Mexico were borrowed to accomodate the overlapping 382 games.
  12. Thanks for posting that blog. I don't think he's right about us being a "lock" for the NIT though.
  13. Kirk Speraw. Our admins mistakes could be your programs opportunities. Again. :-/
  14. O'Leary gets paid enough money to take a few jabs. IMO, Coaches are fair game, but players, even the guys, shouldn't get too personal (unless of course, they have a MySpace photo that could would be worth printing out and distributing...). It sounds like you guys were just lacking creativity that Geno was used to hearing from student groups at other Big East schools. Anyone can call a chick fat. Most of us stopped after middle school and then left that up to the other chicks, and then later, sororities.
