Well, after 11 weeks of wearing the cast and not putting any weight on the foot, they took the cast off today and took x-rays. The doctor came in and checked the x-rays and asked her to get up from the exam table and put both bare feet on the ground (first time in 11 months that she has done that). Asked her to take a couple of steps holding onto the table. She was scared to death. Had some pain in the heel which he said is normal and to be expected for a while.
 
Then he had us go back to the Durable Medical Equipment area and they redid and refitted the walking boot (I had taken it apart to wash it). The Dr then wanted to see her take some steps with the boot on using the walker which she did. Now it is a matter of therapy and time for her to walk with the walker and boot, then go walking without the walker and eventually into a pair of Hoka sneakers. When we asked about our trip in April he was very optimistic that she'll be able to go. We see him in a month for another update.
 
Thank you all for all your thoughts, prayers, wishes, etc. Christmas Eve will be 11 months since the nightmare began. Can't tell you how happy we'll be to see the calendar change to 2024. 2023 basically was a wasted year for us and we're hoping next year will get closer to normal.
