Meaningless bowl game.  Coin flip, but I’m taking USF.  Culture win.

No offense but until we play for a championship, all of these games are meaningless, so sit back and enjoy the ride Brad

It's not meaningless.  We haven't been to one of these in a while.

Syracuse picked up OSU transfer Kyle McCord. Hopefully, he can't play. Not sure what the rule is there.

Is he signed or committed?  Either way pretty sure not eligible to play in the bowl game.

I always find the Syracuse orange a weird mascot because Florida is known for orange not NY. I heard from a drunk Syracuse fan when we were in the Big East they changed to the orange  fruit mascot because some people found the original mascot offensive. I have no idea how true that is.

They had been the Orangemen when I was young. Have no idea when they changed.

DAILYORANGE.COM

Our reader imagines if Syracuse University and The Onondaga Nation collectively influenced Syracuse's nickname. Continue reading →

In 1931, based on a campus connection with the Onondaga Nation, Syracuse University adopted the Orangemen nickname and Saltine Warrior logo. In the 1950s the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity added a human Indian mascot to the mix.

That scenario lasted until the 1970s when concerns were first raised about the manner in which the Onondagan culture was being (mis)represented by the logo and mascot. In 1978 a pow wow between the Onondagans, the fraternity and the university resulted in the termination of the logo and the mascot. The nickname lived on until 2005 when it was officially shortened to just “Orange.”

So, Orange must refer to the skin color of the native population in NY history.
