Star Trek Wow GIF

I thought it was just a cute orange.

Our daughter's friend was the mascot for one season back in the 2000's. They came down to play in the Citrus Bowl and our daughter drove over to see her friend and got into the costume for a photo op in her room.

Our reader imagines if Syracuse University and The Onondaga Nation collectively influenced Syracuse's nickname. Continue reading →

In 1931, based on a campus connection with the Onondaga Nation, Syracuse University adopted the Orangemen nickname and Saltine Warrior logo. In the 1950s the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity added a human Indian mascot to the mix.

That scenario lasted until the 1970s when concerns were first raised about the manner in which the Onondagan culture was being (mis)represented by the logo and mascot. In 1978 a pow wow between the Onondagans, the fraternity and the university resulted in the termination of the logo and the mascot. The nickname lived on until 2005 when it was officially shortened to just “Orange.”

So, Orange must refer to the skin color of the native population in NY history.

Good find.

So they were just ahead of the times and were the washington redskins that wanted to rebrand their image.

Bowl uniforms released.  Looks like we might get a color vs. color matchup unless Cuse goes with road whites.
