I cut my USF football teeth starting in the 2006 range.  I've always been of the belief that the only substantive difference between the 'haves' and the 'have-nots,' was history and money.

I honestly thought that if given the chance, we could go toe to toe with anyone (when we were consistently good).

Our former football conference mates are making me rethink that.

Those who shall not be named 6-6

Cincinnati- 3-9

Houston 4-8

What happened to them?!?! I thought they were all solid programs that would transition just fine. Did they all lose a lot of talent or is this the future we all pine for...?

To be fair I did look up...

Rutgers 1 winning season out of 9

Louisville 6 winning seasons out of 9

I didn't include Pittsburgh or Syracuse because they never made it to the AAC.

South Florida transitioned to BCS football better as an eight year old.

But at least they aren’t plateauing at 8-9 wins a year…

They stepped up in competition. The AAC is the minors.

We were built better defensively when we made the move. I feel like they were all in down years playmaker wise in the transition year as well.

My follow up question is, are the pundits right in regards to them/ eventually us, being big fish in a little pond?

When they say beating/facing a top 25 opponent once a season is the only reason we can/do show fight and the ability to win when we do?

Is the 'who we play" in other conferences doomed to make us a Vanderbilt of our future conference?

Yea, basically.  It's not that a team isn't good it's just a different beast to do it every week over the course of the season facing injuries, depth, most teams play poorly at some point, etc against strong opponents every week

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
