Its not a talent issue. Yes good talent could make him look better but he has a scheme problem and positioning players.  Bad angles. He is easily outcoached every game. Good coaches do more with less.

Players out of position and consistently taking bad angles, IMO, is a coaching problem. IF the problem is talent and speed then those issues need to be addressed in recruiting.

I will add that I believe Kevin Patrick is not doing too bad. Wondering if he will eventually get promoted..

This has actually been the worst defense with the easiest schedule over the last 5 years.

Year Coordinator Ranking SOS
2019 BJM 75th 52nd
2020 Spencer 122nd 68th
2021 Spencer 117th 53rd
2022 Shoop 130th 56th
2023 Orlando 131st 94th

Nice stat!  We have to account for the competition.

WSS how those stats end up after the last three games are completed. I do believe there is only one shootout invitations (UTSA)  left on the schedule. I don’t recall USF having this many shootout games on their schedule in previous seasons so stats may not tell the whole story

Not an excuse but one thing to consider  is that we play a fast style of offense which may mean that the defense is on the field more often with shorter breaks.

IMO 2 shootouts. Again, my opinion, but I think Temple will throw the ball at will vs our defense.

Teams that throw can beat us unless we play perfectly on offense.  It's there all day.

Sounds like a very flawed strategy.
Perhaps winning the time of possession battle isn’t an outdated concept.

Sorry but the whole we have no talent on defense is a non starter for me. You think UAB or FAU are loaded with defensive talent…of course not. We are getting smoked by lousy AAC schools.

FAU was apparently loaded last year ... really loaded ... since their defense finished at # 64, coached by someone who supposedly doesn't know what the **** he's doing.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
