I was thinking, we have had a lot of “characters” come through USF. Sure we all love QF, Grothe, Blackwell and such, but who is your favorite Bill that was either underrated or just not the “most” popular player? Mine is Trae Williams in football, he was really dependable yet over shadowed by Jenkins. In basketball, it was Chris Howard, he wasn’t overly athletic, but was very smart and reliable with ball handling and distribution. What are your thoughts?

There have been many, but for football, one that stands out was Patrick St. Louis - great linebacker, and he was around the time that Marty St. Louis was playing for the Bolts, so I always pronounced his last name like Marty's.  When he'd make a big play I'd yell St. Loouuiiieeee! like Dave Mishkin on the Lightning radio calls.

Probably Toarlyn Fitzpatrick in basketball.

Gosh, there are so many just in football.  Carlton Mitchell was one that I enjoyed watching.

Bit of trivia here - his mother, Andrea, was my anesthesiologist for a couple of surgeries.  She had to put the mask on me to stop me from talking about USF football so they could operate!

I can definitely agree with St. Louis on my list along with Marshall Smith for Football.  Those guys were the guts of our defenses in some ways. Tip of the hat to Joe Morgan too.

Fitzpatrick is a good one, definitely the heart and soul of that team!

This is a great topic for me since I appreciate guys who prepare and do what it takes to help the team to win despite not being a star. I thought about this and I surprisingly have to choose an offensive player, RB Demetris Murray. The guy got us some tough yards, had a nose for the end zone, could catch the ball,  blocked for his teammates. I cannot remember him being out of position or even fumbling.

Walt Williams is my all time favorite Bull.  Him and Dubose had amazing character and great leadership.  And I can never forget the catch by Jessie Hester.

Tyre McCants brought a physical presence at receiver position you rarely see...was a blast to watch.

UCF found out they weren't going to win so easily when McCants dragged their defender into the end zone.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
