Have they ever mentioned those contracts in the past? Usually I only hear about it when it is time to fire a guy and then you read that there is probably some back room deal with the Foundation. Honestly don't remember reading about it when a guy gets hired. But I'm old so there is that.

I think we're only discussing this now as he's hired because we've finally learned that these contracts exist with the last two football coaches when they were fired. I don't know that we had any of these "back room" deals between coaches and the Foundation before Chuck, at least none that I remember hearing about.

I'm thinking they've been around for awhile but were emphasized with the extensions and IF they actually cost us more money with the dismissals ..

One wonders, in the current state of collegiate athletics (e.g., free agency, NIL. etc.) why the coaches' contracts aren't moved entirely outside of funding by the universities.

That’s when you know your schools athletics program has officially hit rock bottom, already planning on firing your newly hired coach before he even holds a practice 😂

Seriously. Like I know it will turnaround but until it does it’s just painful

Just for the record. I like the hire, think he will do well. I'm not talking about buyout because I expect us to need it.

I am also ok not knowing what his secret contract says.

I just object to talking about the state one as if it stands alone. That 20 week pay is just what the state allows, the reality is his whole contract is probably guaranteed, unless he is fired for cause.

The reality is, we have to offer contracts like that, because if that is what the competition offers, we can't be the only ones not offering it, we would never get a coach.

Was thinking the same thing ...... but to say we're kind of gun shy at this point when it comes to having to fire a coach is a huge understatement, it's understandable it enters the picture these days.

I may have been misunderstood a bit. Thought someone had mentioned the total contract and having a separate one with the Foundation. I just don't ever remember hearing about that part of a contract when a guy/woman gets signed. Not looking to fire anyone yet.

It's been a couple weeks, I really think it's time we start discussing what length of extension we should offer coach! He's done a great job existing for the time being and should be worthy of more money and a longer contract by now.
