Others suggest he should have just run a different play

Or, others say run it should have been a Mangham from play under center

Or, others say QB sneak.

And, of course, a punt.

I'm not sure how many would agree with a punt with that much time left and the ability to slice right through our defense.  I think it was pretty clear we were going to need to score again, not give them the ball again.

Regardless, I guess all the coaches out there have different thoughts on it.

Scott should have taken the safe move and punted the ball.

Which he got excoriated for doing in earlier games ...

No problem at all with going for it but thought the QB sneak may have been better, depending on exactly how much was needed. Still, Mangham is a stud and with a direct snap, not having to worry about a hand off, 1 yard should have more than doable in 2 attempts.

CJS keeps the longest fbs losing streak alive this week  in fbs football  . 0 and infinity mode ready. I thought he was building a winning culture.

Why waste a timeout to run the exact same play ? They knew the play and got stuffed by the exact same player .

The timeout was probably more to make a decision whether to go for it or not ..... and I guess we could have tried some trickeration there but short yardage situations like that are usually a matter of which players impose their will over the others and it didn't go in our favor. Like I said, if it was only a foot or so, I may have opted for a qb sneak ...... but, does Timmy ever work from under center? I honestly don't remember without going back and looking at games.

This. You can't call a timeout and run the same play! You have a running QB.  At least try an option to the outside or something. Or punt it. I'm fine with punting over handing them the W.

Depends on the feel at the time, but I would cosign anytime with this defense we want to go for it to win the game.

I really cannot disagree with the choice given the lack of consistent defensive prowess on our part.  That said, I sit on the southwest side of the stadium and could not tell if it was a short yard (i.e. inches) or a long yard.  That makes a difference to me as I would have only gone for it on a short yard. Also, I certainly would rather have a play like that start under center in that situation.

I may get blasted for this, but Timmy wasn’t a running high school quarterback. That is what we want him to be. He attempted 654 passes and ran 254 times. 72% of the time he attempted a pass. In a podcast I listened to, they mentioned that his high school coach also has stated that.
