Violent Society...this might be a thought that can be bent in many directions. I wish, young or not so young, black guys or any young guys, could keep themselves at a distance to criminality. I know, I know the history of racist abuse. I didn't read about it I saw it first hand. There are cops who shoudnt be cops. There are cops that work scared and over react. There are cops that are just plain hateful to blacks and most other groups. None of these personalities need to be in the cop business. Problem is, it takes time to weed them out. There are "Many" arguments/history that go along with this subject. But, I'm talking about the recent shootings. If you look at the recent deaths/shootings of people there was a reason the cops were there. Some form of criminality was taking place minor or major. They weren't just riding down the street looking to shoot someone actually, like the days prior to the 60's. Each of these started as law related response. Parents, Coaches, Teachers need to tell young people "Don't get yourself into a confrontation with the cops it could go very bad". I know preachy but it's a heartfelt, tragic subject. I get the situations. I had several tense, life threatening situations where I was justified to shoot but I found a different way to a solution. Two of these involved teenage blacks with guns. One shot at me he was showing off a new gun to his buddies. That was the reason. His life changed that night. When I was a cop I also coached part time at a high school. I spent a lot of time with 5-6 black kids because they rode the bus to the cross town school but at 5-6pm they had to wait for a transit bus( no parents picked them up) I started driving them home many nights. We would stop and eat and jaw about all kinds of things. They were great kids. Most of them lived in the City limits. Some of the City cops weren't the friendliest especially with blacks. I worked with some pretty racist guys way back when. I told them over and over..do not get yourself into a situation with these guys it wont go well for you. I know, a long post. It isn't really about me...it's about how easy it is to get into the situation like we have seen take place. When I see CJS get emotional you know he has his hands full trying to work with these young men especially in the hot button society we are living in. He hears there side of things and I'm sure it breaks his heart. 2

Especially something that is affecting them, and young men of all colors. As long as they keep unsaid organization out of it, I'm happy and enthusiastic about the start of the season. If they mention them, I'm out as a fan. 1

Proud of our young men. I am happy that Scott is our coach. 1
