People are acting like we were in a Power conference for a long time... even then the Big East was looked at as a inferior football conference.  Schools couldn't wait to bail from that conference.  The AAC is fine for now... we got a little taste of the pie.  But we're not less relevant than we were then.  The American is a decent conference.. like the Big East it's looked at as better than other G-5 conferences but inferior to the Power 5. Nothing has changed except the money.  If that's what you're ******** about, then you have a point.  But in terms of quality of play,  it's about the same as the Big East.

But the BE did have auto to NYD bowl game and programs that were viewed as more historical in terms of success.

I just assumed that since you always knew more than half of all football teams had no chance at winning the national title, but it only hurt your feelings when someone said it out loud, the opposite was true.

The only reason “some” of those teams have no chance is that they don’t devote the infrastructure for success. Perhaps that is a good thing for some as they invest in more important things like R&D and academics. But if, let’s say Iowa, ran the table and got a little help from other teams, they will have a better chance than USF if we ran the table. Hell, even sorry ass KU would have a better chance. But the reality is there are probably only 10 teams that can recruit on the statement “we are playing for the ncaa playoffs.”

Puc is right. There's never going to be a Flutie effect for the G5. The students clearly aren't coming for athletics so our academic draw is strong enough. It's time to shutter our money burning "tease and fade" flagship program. Let's put that money into research and academics and become the MIT of the south. If there's no route to the P5 it's really the logical thing to do. Then see what we can get from the city and the Bucs for selling them our off campus stadium.

Ugh I hate to bump a troll thread, but when it causes other people to be negative I feel like I gotta step in.

The school is only 63 years old.  We just voted on our 7th president, and footballs only been around for the past 22 years.

Thinking we should shutter the program because "students don't show" or whatever is silly.  The program just reached 150 wins faster than any other in Florida, so on field performance is ahead of schedule.

As for fans showing up, look at the Rays.  Another relatively new team for it's league.  You don't get alumni and fans overnight.  People have to start traditions and that takes time.  And the university itself hasn't done a great job connecting students to football, but supposedly they're trying more now.

So relax, it's not that bad.

And the majority of our conference was called up into the big leagues and replaced by dreck that no one would have ever considered putting into their conference but that had no impact at all. The BEAST had a decent history and some prestigious institutions that had national recognition and appeal. The difference in the sentiment is palpable in every facet not the least of which is the money, access and prestige. The AAC doesn’t even compare to Conference USA when we were in it much less to the BEAST.

I think Puc is being tongue in cheek here. USF football will exist as long as the university exist. In what form may be up for debate but it will be around.

Same as it was in 1919.

Your first sentence is s great point. The AAC had a thorough examination for moving into the Big12 and espn said there was no value.

Louisville and TCU are better than any other team in this conference and all of the best of the crap here were also there with us.
