Not that concerened with ranking just clean up the brain dead slow and sloppy starts and this team will look pretty impressive.

Don't shoot the messenger.  Article says USF is not top 50 material.  I don't have access, only read what was free.  Link: http://insider.espn.com/chalk/insider/story/_/id/24931077/college-football-early-look-betting-week-7-including-teams-buy-sell

Where in the article did it mention we were not top 50 material, specifically?  They had us in their sell portfolio... actually I'll just put it here

Portfolio Checkup

Which teams we're buying and selling and why.

Sell: South Florida Bulls

The Bulls are 5-0, but it's hard to call them a good team. South Florida is certainly an undisciplined one, as Charlie Strong's first edition finished ahead of only Oregon in both penalties and penalty yardage last year, and once again ranks outside the top 100 midway through this season.

EDITOR'S PICKS

The defense is less than the sum of its talented parts, while the offense has little consistency and rarely musters a drive without benefit of explosive plays, which are about the only strength this team can really hang its hat on. Transfer quarterback Blake Barnett has been a quality addition, but he joined a unit with little existing leadership, and his off-field burden has been pretty heavy for a first-year player. South Florida's 5-0 start was forged against a very soft schedule that saw the Bulls outgained by more than 100 yards twice.

South Florida's five wins have come against an FCS team and four programs that combined have won less than a third of their FBS games since the start of last year. This outfit is basically what it was last season: a poorly coached house of cards that's bailed out by some explosive playmakers. The difference between this year's team and the 2017 group is that the latter featured a truly generational athlete in record-setting quarterback Quinton Flowers, while the current roster has standard quality Florida talent. That's good, but not good enough for 10 bailouts again.

GT ahead of USF?

They are P5 and therefore automatically better than us.

Response to quote above.... This thread is a little different imo -- but was once again over taken by ranking discussions, mostly in response to the "not even top 50 remark".

this is for everyone....

I think most of our reasonable fans have a reasonable attitude about where we really stand (somewhere around the thirties) based on watching this team. We get that our place in this ranking is a little smoke and mirrors for the moment until we get to throw down against the tougher teams on the schedule. Reality will probably hit somewhere there-- good or bad.

In the end though-- rankings are only helpful for skewing the perception of those who do not following our team closely. Rankings do not win conference championships. Our team has to prove it on the field every game just like anyone else. Keep the W's coming and let the chips fall where they may in the end.

The only reason rankings might ever matter is if we run the table and get a shot at that New Years bowl game -- one which will will have earned. Understand though that we have proved nothing more than we can scrape together wins at this point. We are not wowing anyone with this team. And if we go 10-2 this season, that is a great year for this team-- everything over that is a bonus imo. 12-0 can happen but man do we need to get things figured out fast. That said-- we could also end up 8-4. So let's enjoy the ride. Beats the hell out of 2-10

Mike...that is 1 of the best post I've read in the last 10 years on this board.

Right before the part you provided us (thanks for that by the way).

Join us below as we unmask a ranked unbeaten that's not even top-50 material, seek profits in Pac-12 offenses that are finding an identity and tell you which Sun Belt squad is in a very unusual spot this week -- and which one is surprisingly seasoned at its own role.

unless he talked about more than one unbeaten ranked team in the article, seems obvious to me he was referring to the Bulls.

We are not "allowed" a tougher schedule. Teams do not want to play us. Our goalposts are different. We are not on the same playing field, but are expected to be better.

Didn't bother reading Matt Bakers "reason" ... why does he put ucf high, but does not rank USF ? Their schedule is no different than ours?

Pee5 steal our coaches.

Need a tougher conference.

Go BULLS !!!

you should read it-- it is not too far from a rational approach though there are some points where he overlooks certain things which I disagree with.

To answer your question-- he has watched both USF and UCF play and felt they played better than we do (which so far is hard to argue against).

I think he feels we are more upset about his ranking than we are about the manner in which his paper covers our team. Lack of coverage is our biggest beef with the TBT. We just want to stop being treated like an after thought. And it would be nice if the reporters did not feel the need to throw shade on us at every opportunity just because we haven't been playing football for over 50 years.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
