The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Good - up by 24 at the half and only got a little stressed during the 2nd half.  BB looked really good throwing the ball.

Bad - Our run defense

Ugly - Did any RB or WR or TE break a tackle?  I don't remember one.  McCants powered through a couple of guys on his TD reception I guess but either Elon had great tacklers or our guys don't have that shake.

Elon was supposed to be a quality opponent, and they showed they wouldn’t roll over. We have plenty of work today, but it’s good that they were push today. 

But your wrote is pretty accurate. I hope we show improvement next week

Good: BB looks good passing the ball and  pretty mobile, no blocks on special teams.

Bad: Run blocking wasn't what I had hoped it would be.

Ugly: Run defense was not great especially in the second half but I think that was more to do with getting allot of the younger guys some more game experience.

 

Elon was a good team they have one of the best FCS defensive players in the middle linebacker and returned most of the players to a team that made the playoffs last year.  They are as good as most of the mid level teams in the American we will face.   We looked sort of vanilla and still the game was never really in doubt.

Good - Passing offense.  1. Barnette A+   2. Recievers A-  3. RB's D   4. O-line  C- (QB's generally had time to throw)

Bad - O-Line  -  Pitiful run blocking

Ugly - D-line  -  Just pitiful.

Good points, BDYZR. We were noticeably beat in the trenches by Elon.  Both USF O and D lines looked ineffective yesterday. Hope we can correct by next Saturday.

Didn't we return most of the O Line from last year?  If so not that worried about them...just a slow start I think.

The middle of the D Line could have me concerned a tad maybe its more the depth is an issue it is young and still hasn't gained the weight they need at this level.

It was a win and it was good to see the other QBs get reps.  Our defense as a whole was concerning.  But for the numerous tipped ints, the game would have been much closer than it should have been.  But hey, this has become normal for our first game over the years.  GT will provide the first real test and I am excited to see B.B. throw against an FBS opponent.

Good - A win that was never in doubt, Blake 24 of 34 (71%), 305 yard, 3 tds

Bad - Running game, hopefully that will change with Cronk

Ugly - Run defense.  That's got to tighten up.
