I want to watch Music videos on MTV.

MTV is still around? I quit watching that more than 20 years ago.

I think this is just another indication that sports media is going to go through a painful transition. Popularity is still there, but the effects of over saturation too many talk shows and live streaming are taking its toll on EPSN's flawed business model.

Holy crap!!  I know it won't happen, but what if ESPN had to file bankruptcy?  How does that effect contracts?

Considering ESPN is operated by The Walt Disney Co I dont see that happening.

If anything this is no bueno for P6 as the money is not flowing freely anymore.

This article covers what their plans our for turning it around in the coming seasons.

Parent company Disney is gearing up to take a new approach to sports by launching an ESPN streaming service in 2018. Disney is also working on launching a separate TV and movie streaming service to compete with Netflix (NFLX) the following year. Disney will be pulling its content from Netflix's platform in 2019, and CEO Bob Iger recently said that Disney's new subscription service will be priced "substantially below Netflix."

The company has given no indication of potential pricing for the ESPN service, but the Disney generates an estimated value of $7.50 per month per current ESPN subscriber. Given Iger's recent comments, it's likely Disney will aim for a relatively low initial price point for its ESPN streaming service as it focuses on building its subscriber base rather than maximizing profitability.

ESPN needs to get back to innovative and great presentation of live sporting events and more news based sports coverage.  Nobody needs the talking heads screaming shows in 2017.  Twitter is much better for that kind of stuff and many random people are better at it than the stiffs they put on the air.

Also, cord cutting in general is killing them and they have been slow to react to it.   Their dependence on being bundled in to cable packages and complacency with that comfort has caught them flat footed as the younger generations and now even many more older folks are figuring out that cable is just a bad deal.

This is a tiny, tiny factor.  Cord cutters have been murdering ESPN as well as the stale "talking heads yelling at each other"  format shows that dominate their air waves just don't interest people anymore.   ESPN was revolutionary when they introduced shows like PTI etc but that format is stale and dead.  Twitter made those shows obsolete as you can watch those debates happen seconds after news breaks so by the time those shows get to the airwaves everything that needs to be said has usually been said.   ESPN has kept repackaging that format rather than trying new and innovative things and they now have hours upon hours of stale and uninteresting programming.  ESPN needs to get back to as much live sports content as possible and find innovative ways to present it.  If their smart they will ditch the talking head shows and fill it with live sports and e-sports content.   The younger generation loves e-sports and ESPN would be smart to try to corner that market.....

You are dead on correct about these “debate” shows. They are so played. I wonder who in the hell is still watching this trash. Let’s be sports and the 30 for 30 documentaries are all they have going for them.

Yeah, 30 for 30 is the best thing ESPN has done in about a decade.  Everything else has been garbage.....
