Coached under Hal Mumme. Was with Mike Leach at Texas Tech, was co-OC with Dana Holgorsen. Then took Tony Franklin with him to La Tech and then to Cal. Tony Franklin then left him in 2015 to take the OC job at Middle Tennessee State. I suspect he wasn't the play caller. The Air Raid is a lot of fun to watch but I can't say it has been successful. Mike Leach seems to have to have done the best with it. It always seems to go hand in hand with zero defense so the final scores are always like 58-55. Son of Spike Dykes so the only positive I would give the hire for SMU is he is a Texas guy.

The bowl is in 8 days and you have early signing day.

Should win 8-10 and look great. 8 would be the most regular seasons wins for SMU in 34 years.

Of course you are assuming it is not the University of California Dykes who is coaching (his last HC stop).
