Even if all he has done is be a DFO and a special teams coordinator? Don't get me wrong I'm sure he would be a great AD but it just doesn't scream P5 HC to me. Maybe I'm misinformed on special teams coordinators, how many P5 Head coaches had only special teams experience prior? The fact that he has only really worked for his father doesn't helpeither. Maybe if he had some experience outside of that shadow, I would consider it a quality pick. All considered, I believe he got the job because of his last name not his merit.

And maybe if Leavitt didn't get fired from USF, he'd be a slam dunk.

You can't possibly think that plays no part in the decision.

I think if Mike Leach and Bobby Patrino has a jobs, then what Jim Leavitt did here can't do too much. Also the article says that the president was on board, so I'm assuming they had already dealt with that.

I like Jim Leavitt a lot...like my son more.  But I'd do the ethically correct thing, still.

This is brazen.

I'd prefer Leavitt get the UCF gig or something else in Florida.

Might not be a bad thing to have his son try to be the head coach as a nice buffer before CJL swoops in to save the day when they can Snyder's boy.

Maybe CJL is better at being a DC than he would be as a HC. Maybe.

This is so true. Those who follow legends directly usually don't make it ...

Yeah, outside of the Bowden/Fischer transition, following a legend can be a kiss of death. It seems they were trying to follow that model though by bringing in Leavitt early.
