They wouldn’t make any sense, especially if logically the path to the NY6 AQ would run between USF/UCF winner and the AAC West champion. I was previously concerned about the CFP possibly leaving an undefeated USF out of their initial poll, if SDSU and UCF were also undefeated. However, since there are now only two undefeated teams USF and UCF, I expect both will be ranked by them. Currently, we have one more win than UCF. This week we play a decent Houston team while UCF plays 1AA Austin Peay. The first CFP poll comes out after those games. In our favor, we don't have a 1AA team (because the UMass game was cancelled), and will have one more win against a 1A team, than UCF. UCF will still have better wins overall and a considerably stronger SOS. I would be surprised to see either of us ranked better than 19. My guess is that UCF will be one spot ahead of USF. Prediction: UCF 20 USF 21 Memphis might also get in at #25, with a win over Tulane. Edited October 22, 2017 by Mama_Bull

It will give the players extra motivation. We have to win out regardless of what number we are at the end of the season. Even though we had a better record throughout the year, we never cracked the poll. Even after our quality win vs Navy who was 25 at the time. We win out and it won't matter what happens this week in the polls. Right now they are playing better. This week or any other week. ...... and their 6-0 is better than our 7-0 so they should be ranked higher.
