Why do we need a P5 school? Houston last year beat Oklahoma and UofL. Navy beat ND. ECu beat NCSt. The year before our conference beat more and so on. We have a great record vs the SEC, ACC, B1G and Big XII (Not so much vs the PAC as we seldom play them). What more do we need to show. We can beat their arses and that's why many of them do not play our schools at least not away.

I'm tired of explaining the P5 was made to make certain media groups and conferences a ton of cash. It's that simple. Even with that cash advantage, many of them would get **** stomped by most teams in our conference. :angrymob:

Perception is reality. Yes, this conference has had some decent wins against P5 schools but the record is still significantly a losing one. Are we the 6th best conference? Sure. Can we beat the low level P5 teams? Sure. But their best against our best will not turn well. I do agree with your point regarding the media but we both know that winning long term is the only way to overcome that.

Until we win the conference a few times, I find it hard to blame our AD for supposedly blowing our infinitesimal chance at making the playoffs ...

My point is that going undefeated this year will not put us in the playoffs. IF we had scheduled two decent P5 schools and beat them, our odds would have increased, but we would have still needed serious help with losses from P5 schools.

Originally, there was a decent P5 team on our schedule for this year. That changed when some other future games got reshuffled. I posted a USF release about that in another thread some months ago.

I don't know what efforts USF made to schedule a comparable team in its place.

I get that, and these games are always scheduled far in advance. I don't have any idea how hard he tried, but I do know that our out of conference schedule is pretty laughable.

Literally the only thing that can help us get there is if Illinois runs the table aside from a loss to us, and multiple AAC teams go through the season with one loss (to us), and we'll also need to meet another undefeated AAC team in the conference title game, and beat them handily.

And even all that will not likely be enough to get us to the playoff.

I love this idea ... for the team.  As fans, since we have no control over what happens, I think it's fine to have an opinion right now, months before the games.

Houston would have had a very good case last year. Wins against top ten UL and OU OOC, wins against ranked Temple and Navy in conference, plus wins vs. Bowl teams Tulsa, Memphis, and UCF. That's 7 teams that went bowling and four of them that were ranked at some point during the season. Navy would likely have stayed ranked if they didn't keep losing QBs.
