NCAA games feel nowhere near as long as an NFL game does. The length doesn't bother me at all

NFL games do seem to take longer, but college isn't far behind. The number of tv time outs and reviews kill the game. I know the networks need to make $, but it shouldn't take almost 4 hours (sometimes more) to play a football game.

Easy.

Just don't stop the game clock - except for scoring plays or major injuries requiring the cart or a stretcher - until the final two minutes of each half. Then go back to the currently existing clock rules.

Commercials only between periods or between a score and the subsequent kickoff

Games will be under 2.5 hours, maybe under 2 hours

like soccer?

never happen

tv commercials run the sport

It is very similar to the baseball paradox happening in the MLB right now. They want scoring up AND game time down. It just aint gonna happen.

If they cant touch the revenue stream, and lets be honest they wont, they have to encourage offenses to run the ball more, and score less, creating a "less entertaining product".

Good luck.

The easy solution is to follow basketball or hockey with the way TV timeouts are handled.

TV timeouts are the BIGGEST REASON games are so long.  I've been at games where there was a TV timeout during the instant replay review then after the PAT and then after the kickoff because of an injury.  Six minutes of timeouts with a PAT and a kickoff in between.

There should be either XX minutes of game time between TV timeout windows OR perhaps YY minutes of real time between windows.

When you have games that go 50+ to 40+ ... you end up with a timeout after every TD and/or punt... that is a lot of time wasted.

There is a solution for cutting the time in a baseball:

1 - Call the ACTUAL strike zone.  Which is supposed to be basically armpits to knees.  Most umpires shrink that down.

2 - Add a "pitch clock" of 15-20 seconds from the time the batter enters the box where the pitcher has to throw to a base or pitch the ball.

3 - Batters can't call time out once in the batters box... and maybe add a 15-20 second "batter clock" when the batter has to get into the batters box to bat.

I solved this problem by tuning into games late sometimes. Don't really need to watch the first quarter.

Get rid of the P5 BS hype and then games will be shorter. How many times do we need to hear it?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
