We have 2 spots open. We need a second db coach since Hampton coached CBs and Janceck coached safeties and we've only hired one DB coach. So that and DL makes 2 spots.

It is not necessary to have 2 DB coaches however I agree we could hire another. In theory Bell can coach the DBs as a whole especially because his title does not include a stipulation that he coaches CBs or Safety's.

We have 2 on the field spots open regardless of if it's DB's or not. I can't remember the last time a coach went into a new season and didn't use all of the full time assistant spots.

This. It's idiotic to suggest we have any less, or more, than 2 slots that'll be filled.

My guess is DL and DB. Bell has the largest defensive unit (by heads) and the least cachet of all the defensive hires. He won't own the whole unit.

The only other guys I could think of is another LB coach if CCS decides to move us to 3-4.

Coach Jean-Mary is the Def coord- LB coach. So we are good.

Exactly. You're limited by NCAA rules on number of full time assistants (read assistants that can recruit on the road) you can have on the staff. We have not filled 2 of those slots.
