Do you think that would be the case if we were in the SEC or Big12?

I would speculate that we would not be able to out talent as many teams as we did this year if you substitute us in either of those conferences. FSU was not that great of a D, but talent was on par with the many Big12 teams, and we struggled on O.

The play calling was not the X factor in 2016. It was FL talent with a spread offense. Keep the spread and the talent and we will be successful a la CJL and CWT last 2 years. Force a pro style/power set on USF and down we go. I will take a bet that CCS will not do this.

This is sort of a slippery slope. I mean Charlie Strong had Top 10 recruiting classes during his first two years there. We don't get recruits like that here. So they clearly have the talent there.

I would agree with you on the play calling thing. That's the only thing that concerns me, if we get a power offense forced on us. I agree that it's unlikely to happen. However, I'm just stating that I would prefer to keep our offensive staff, don't fix what isn't broken IMO.

Oh, and the Big 12 doesn't play defense, so yeah I do think we'd still have gaudy offensive numbers! :D

I wonder what the buyout clauses on the Texas assistant coaches staff are if they take another job.  Texas had a 4.5 million dollar staff and their lowest paid guy wouldve been our second highest.  Gilbert was making $850,000.  I would think even with a sizable bump in our pool we are going to pay an OC around half of that.

Bedford will have better opportunites IMO, even as a position coach vs DC.  I wonder if Strong had much of a relationship with Dan McCarney.

What kind of success has Gilbert had?

Major improvement from 2015 to 2016; 100th to 24th...  he wasn't the OC in 2015

True.

As many are stating in the media and on TBP, its possible that CCS close to figuring it out just like CWT was at USF which was confounded by other factors at Texas. We should recall that we were just about ready to fire CWT in year 3. The fact that Texas was in the top 20 on offense would indicate that they were indeed getting close on O.

I think our is only going to get better under CCS because we will have a better OC at the helm (ie not CCS) and a better D as he has a proven track record as a DC.

That last point is a very fair one. I'm really excited to see what sort of defensive improvements we get.

Same was true in 2015.

Moreover, you better believe Harlan will tell him to keep the spread.

In the B12, we'd average 60 ppg. Nobody plays defense in that league.

When this happens (pending the whole dotted line thing...) lets give some credit to Tom Korun for getting that "I'll be back" statement. That made last night a little more tolerable when CCS left Tampa.

It is now clear he went back to Austin to dump the Texas booster and pick up a Bull plane.
