And basketball is over and spring football will be over Saturday......

The Bulls baseball team has quietly made some nice headway during their OOC schedule. Since, what is now known as the, Big Trouble in Little Tallahassee, the Bulls have gone 10-2 with wins over #18 illinois, cross-state rivals, FGCU, FIU, Stetson, FAMU, and BCC, as well as a sweep of BE foe Seton Hall. After last nights comeback win against FGCU where, left for dead but re-animated, Buddy Putnam hit his 3rd and 4th home runs of the season, the Bulls are now ranked 58th in RPI. In case you are wondering, baseball works the same as basketball, in that there are 64 teams with conf champs getting auto-bids. So accounting for the auto-bids below the top 64, USF is right now 9th team out (yep, still bracketology folks, get on board!). This is a far cry from 3 weeks ago when they were in the 200's in RPI.

So, the purpose here is, after you see the pointless wonder that is spring football, swing on over to the diamond and watch USF take on Cincy. First series of the conference schedule, Cincy's pretty bad, you might just see the Bulls rack up win 18 or 19 of the young season.

One thing that stuck out from an article I read this morning, not sure where, is the that we've got 12 hr's so far .... which either equals or surpasses ALL of last year.

My wife claims its from new type of baseballs. I hadn't heard this nor researched it but supposedly there are new balls which allow for greater speed off the bat.

Tighter seams have two effects:

1) Tougher for pitchers to grip and apply the torque needed for any sort of breaking ball.

2) Also going to make the ball a little straighter in its path to the plate as per Bernoulli's principle. Probably the same on the way off the bat as well resulting in a bit more distance.

So every team's offensive numbers should be up. Like aluminum bats did.

And prior iterations of the basebulls likely would have dropped the games against Stetson, FGCU, and/or FIU. If Kingston can make a dent in conference play, I'm really optimistic about what he can accomplish with the few more years under his belt.

give it a year, seems very promising at this point for once. conference play is where i'm really hoping they can make some noise. obviously ucf and uconn are really solid teams, but usf should be pushing for top 3 in conference every year imo

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
