I was at that game.  I remember in the first quarter thinking 'What kinda crap show is this?'  Did not use the word crap though.  We scored first and they ran off back to back TD drives.  I remember looking at my boy Sig and saying "I don't think Holtz is the answer." We did run off a bunch of points and I was happy we won but I was like...   Then drove up to Gainesville the next week and watch us bumble and stumble through a game we should have won.  Then went to the next game at RayJay where we barely... yes barely... because they held us to 1 score in the first half... good think it was Taggart's ****** west coast offense and the defense didn't give up a score.  We did win that game 24-12... but I knew Holtz was not the answer.  I knew we'd be like :icon_drink: for the next few years.  It was around that time I joined the "Fire Skip Holtz" crowed.  Yes... in his first season.

And?

Once again Stony Brook gets a new USF coach, is the home opener and gets blown out.

Skip actually put together a pretty good season....all things considered. Didn't have a ton to work with on offense that year, but managed an 8-5 record with wins over Miami, Clemson, and Charlie Strong's Louisville team in a great game. I remember but optimistic about Holtz heading into the following season, especially after beating Notre Dame. Amazing how the bottom dropped out after that.

the reason Holtz didn't have anything to work with because he kicked some of the best guys off the team and others transferred. That first season, had CJL came back... I think that team would have won the conference.

You'll have to refresh my spotty memory on these "best guys" Skip kicked off the team and the ones who transferred. I only recall 2 leaving, Mitchell for the draft before Holtz got here and Mike Ford kicked himself off the team. Who am I missing?
