People think he's a good coach because he's a very good coach. It's weird how turning a dogshit TTU program into a consistent bowl team for a decade gives people a solid impression of your coaching acumen.

please don't act like making a bowl game is anything more than mediocre.

the coach before him was 82-67. he was 84-43

conference records 57-40 and 47-33

tied or better for 2nd in the conference for 8 of 9 years before he got there.

he took a better than mediocre program and really didn't improve on it much.

obviously you had no clue how good their program was before he got there.

the guy before him had 1 losing conference record in the 13 years he was there before Leach. he was named conference coach of the year 4 times.

Nope. What I know about TTU before Leach is nothing. I could have copied and pasted Wikipedia, but you proved the point. Before Mike Leach they were average-above average and completely irrelevant. Mike Leach won more, won bigger, and gave them an identity. Those are things good coaches do.

he gave them an identity? obviously you didn't think college football existed before 2000.

an 8-4 ole miss team beat his best team ever by 13 in the cotton bowl. never made a bcs bowl. the guy was overhyped because of his personality.

taking him out of his texas recruiting grounds has hurt him. it would have done the same here.

3-9, 6-7, 3-9 isn't proof of a good coach.

hell it's not even proof of a mediocre one.

so the guy before leach won at a 55% clip at TTU and Leach won at a 66% clip and that is supposed to prove that Leach was mediocre? 66% winning percentages historically are top 15 programs. 55% winning percentages are mid tier FBS programs. Not even really close.

But he says TTU was nationally known before Leach.

TTU had 1 season where they were ranked in maybe the last 40 years before Leach arrived. TTU ended the season ranked 5 of Leach's last 6 years. There is no argument really.

Wrong. Leach and Holtz had the same contract. There are a lot of reasons he didn't end up here. Money is not one of those reasons.

Sure it isn't, sure.

He's right and you're wrong.

USF paid Holtz about 2 mil per year.

Leach was making just over 2 mil per year until getting a raise to 2.75 mil this year.

Salaries were nearly identical.  USF could have afforded Leach.
