Whether it be the ones that cover USF or nationally, but more to USF coverage why are the tough questions never posed to a coach and then if not answered directly, the reporter follows it up and pushes for an answer to the question and not a beat around the bush answer.

Example:

Willie: Mike White's head wasn't in the game;  but he is our starting QB next week

Media-I don't understand how that is acceptable and tolerated, you are willing to take a chance that his head won't be in the game next week, you are more than half way through the season & your QB's head isn't the game

Media-Wille your offense has ranked  xyz at USF and xyz at WKU, how can you continue to expect to win with offensive #'s such as those.

I know i am picking on Willie but there are many many situations where the media doesn't push the envelope with coaches or administrators and i never understand why

Mainstream media has become a joke, and in general, a tool for the rich and powerful. I don't subscribe to print newspapers and don't have cable TV. It's the best way I can think of to protest poor quality. A lot of good free information and entertainment is around on the internet.

They don't care enough to ask those questions.

Asking tough questions is apparently frowned upon.

I completely agree, but I don't think it's a USF thing. I think these reporters feel like they need to be friends with the teams rather than do their jobs and provide objective information.

Joe: What the tell type question is this?

Answer: it's not. It's a statement. And it's a statement of personal opinion.

That's why those type questions aren't asked.

The appropriate question may have been: At what point did you realize his head wasn't in the game?

Unfortunately the media wants access and won't get it if they asked those type of questions...just my guess.

Media down here is soft. I've seen the Northeast and Canadian media all over hockey coaches after a win, let alone a loss.

Here the media goes along to get along.
