Before questioning someone's character, I'd like to see him get his day in court.

Some Associate AD, "did you do it?"

Lanaris, "Yes."

Some Associate AD, "You're fired."

Don't need court if you admit guilt.

Link?

No link. Just saying, every person doesn't need their day in court as others have stated. If you man up and admit your mistake, no point in going to court.

I think that probably goes without saying.  The point is that he hasn't admitted to it, nor has he been convicted.

If that's the case, he shouldn't have been let go.

No. The point is, that we don't know.  All here is speculation.

I think you mean, all here on TBP is solid fact.

How is it spec if he was fired? If he didn't do it, he would've told Taggart he was innocent and he would've probably been given the benefit of the doubt. And how do you accidently not pay for something? I'll never understand this argument. Do you put something in your pocket and walk out? Do you walk out with something in your hand and go, "Oh ****, I forgot to pay for this item I'm holding in my hand while I'm walking through the metal detector". If you walk out with something without paying, I'm sorry, you know what you're doing. Not to mention, what the hell are you doing at Wallmart after 2am? Now, this is speculation...I'd have to think a lot of people in Wallmart at that hour are under some type of substance. I can't imagine the type of people there at that hour.

This is the supercenter that's about four miles from my house. I don't have any insight as to what WalMart's reasoning for 24-hour-availability (unless it has something to do with the cost of opening and closing such a huge facility, keep the wheels rolling sort of thing), but the real freak show is in prime shopping hours, in particular on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I've been there in the wee small hours of the morning...the place is deserted...in and out without having to dodge the slowly ambling migratory herd of Walmart shoppers. About the only "people" there are the actual stock crew, one cashier, and maybe a handful - at most - of customers. And the occasional shoplifter, but other than that... :FIREdevil:

I've been to Walmart in the wee hours having to buy meds for a kid that is up puking and/or has a high fever. To say a large portion of people there at that time of the morning are on some type of substance is pretty ignorant. Most there at that time are working, but I've seen plenty of non-nine-to-fivers there.

If Tags let him go, he probably had good reason to. Lanaris probably owned up to it. I think indignation at anyone other than Lanaris at this point is silly.

Loss Prevention does not miss.  The last thing this guy wants is to go to "trial".  It's a petit theft charge.  If it's his first offense he'll be placed in a "diversionary" program, pay restitution (if product was damaged or deemed not sellable) and issued a civil demand notice by the company for their time and effort in dealing with the issue.  If he completes the orders the charge will be removed from his record.

There are crimes that are hard for people to move on from (child issues, spousal abuse, theft, crimes against animals) based on public perception.

He was termed by his employer for the act.  Sounds like he made the right decision after he made a poor decision.

My grandfather gave me some great advice, "the measure of a man's character can determined by the decision he makes after he makes a poor decision".  I live by these words today.

Best of luck Mike.

What was your grandfather trying to get you to confess to when he gave you that advice?
