Since it is a slow time I thought this might spark a little conversation.

After reading the article, I'm still wondering what the ratings are a "useful tool" for ..... other than fueling the sports equivalent of Dungeons & Dragons.

Stars don't mean a lot, but the fact of the matter is that you need to evaluate talent well. Holtz was an awful evaluator of talent, outside of Evan Landi I don't think any of his recruits at WR had any sort of real success (Terrence Mitchell just didn't fit well at WR).

At our level, talent evaluation pays off when you find yourself having to defend your top recruits against bigger programs, although you don't like it when you lose players like Porter and Reagan.

Landi was a Leavitt hold over who was BJs back up until Bolts moved him. Andre Davis was a Bolts recruit though... Edited by 206BULL

Of course stars matter. The only thing that is more important than stars is the QB and that is something we seem to always struggle with. If Taggs can't find a QB, then we're going to struggle. Yes, his last class was amazing, but Flowers is a question mark. He needs to get a stud QB in this class.

Point taken. My brain is apparently fried today.

You have to develop talent and not many players got better under holtz. I am impressed at how Wisconsin has been so competitive withwhat they have. 1.81 avg star ranking. We will see how we stack up soon.

You're full of **** if you think stars don't matter.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.
