You don't always know the details behind the decision making process, for either side.  So I wouldn't call this failure, and we'd be silly to think our new HC should have his pick of the litter.  He'll grab some good ones, I'm sure...but players decide for a host of reasons where they want to play.  Maybe he loves the Big Apple more than palm trees.  C'est la vie.

I expect any recruit we don't land to be used by flsportsfan83 as an example on how Coach O is a "failure"

Maybe he should change his name to "Chevette" ....  B)

I think Thomas was the most needed for the upcoming year of all those we're going after but, like JB says ,you'll go crazy trying to figure what the deciding factors for some of these guys are.... C'est la vie it is.

Well in truth Coach O is going to lose more recruiting battles then he wins. Every school does including UK, KU, UNC, and Duke. That's why you do as Coach O has done and that's offer a scholarship to pretty much anybody that play and is willing to listen. He'll get some as everybody is not going to say no to him and USF. Coach Heath didn't recruit that way and often times put all his eggs in one basket and it was crossing fingers and toes hoping it would work in his favor.

I mentioned somewhere earlier that the way Coach O and his staff is recruiting reminds me of what Coach Ed Cooley and his staff did at PROV. Who are the Friars is what many recruits were saying, but Coach Cooley is relentless and goes after any and all talented prospects from East to West, North to South. It wasn't long(1 year) before a couple of highly regarded prospects decided to come play for Coach Cooley and PROV. Now he has highly regarded prospects giving a hard look to his program all the time, and he's now getting good players consistently. All it takes is for the right 1 or 2 guys to say yes and that will get the ball to rolling in USF favor.

The bonus for USF is unlike any other high D-1 program, they can go internationally if need be and pick up a lights out wing shooter, a talented combo guard, and/or stretch 4 or 5 man. Very potent staff for USF to go in these heated recruiting battles and wars with.
