My guess is Skip had a pretty good agent, linking him to UNC and Arkansas interest - the intended result, which was getting Holtz an extension, happened.  And the rest is history ...

 

Would have to agree with this ^

I believe the same, every one of those rumors came from his agent. I never saw anything substantial despite the sound bites and articles. Even his wife scoffed at the idea.

The man just led USF football to a 2-10 record.. Who in the world is going to try and pry him away? Can you name the last coach to go 2-10 in a season and then get offered a job better than the one he has..?

Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports had a source that said UNC was looking at hiring Holtz.  You really think Holtz would have stayed at USF if this happened after the Big East imploded? He has family here, UNC was a lateral move at the time. He'd been gone in a flash instead of staying on the sinking ship of the AAC. What's your source? Wishful thinking?

Gene Chizik was hired away from Iowa State by Auburn after winning 2 games in 2008.
